Bethesda has said that it would “love” crossplay in Fallout 76. However, there’s one thing standing in the way; Sony. According to the publisher, Sony is being difficult in allowing crossplay. Having said that very little has been said about the likes of Microsoft.
Fallout 76 Crossplay
Speaking to Gamestar.de Todd Howard said that the company would want to do crossplay for the game, but Sony was getting in the way. In the interview, he said:
“You cannot do crossplay in 76. We’d really love to but we can’t. Sony is not as helpful as everyone would like.”
This isn’t the first time that Sony has been in hot water over crossplay. Aside from Fallout 76, Sony has rejected it for a host of other games, such as Minecraft. That being said, the likes of Microsoft and Nintendo have been more than happy to go for it. In their eyes, it’s working together in order to help players connect and enjoy their experiences with friends.
Games like Rocket League and Fortnite, as well as Minecraft, support crossplay on Nintendos and Microsofts consoles. However, Sony has always refused to participate. Trying to justify their position, the company said:
“We have a contract with the people who go online with us, that we look after them and they are within the PlayStation curated universe. Exposing what in many cases are children to external influences we are not able to manage or look after, it’s something we have to think about very carefully.”
While that may sound understandable, Microsoft and Nintendo have managed to make it work. In fact, many of their players have been children, especially with the likes of Minecraft. Furthermore, there doesn’t seem to be any negative instances since they first started crossplay. But maybe Sony just wants to take its ball and run.
