It’s been years since Dead Space 3 released. Since it came out, players have pretty much given up hope of Dead Space 4 ever coming out. However, Ben Wanat, who worked on the franchise, has spoken out about what it would have been like.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Mr. Wanat said that the game would have focused more on survival and exploration. According to him, it would have expanded on Dead Space 3‘s flotilla section. He cites that particular section as the inspiration of the entirety of the sequel.
In his words:
“The notion was you were trying to survive day to day against infested ships, searching for a glimmer of life, scavenging supplies to keep your own little ship going, trying to find survivors.”
The core game would have focused on the player going from ship to ship in order to scavenge gear, and more. Furthermore, each ship would have its own unique style. According to Mr. Wanat, ships would be visually distinct from each other, allowing players to have a better feeling of atmosphere and progression throughout the game.
Different Main Character
Mr. Wanat also dropped another bombshell during the Eurogamer interview: the protagonist would be someone other than Isaac Clarke
While he didn’t say that the developers had settled on one particular character, he did mention some secondary characters who appeared in the first three games.
Based on what Mr. Wanat said, it seems like Dead Space 4 would have been a great start to a new trilogy in the franchise. However, it’s unlikely to ever see the light of day. The studio was bought up not too long after Dead Space 3 released. After that, the team was broken up to focus on different projects. Because of that, there’s been no work on the franchise in recent years.
