Thatcher has always been one of Rainbow Six Siege‘s most popular operators. This was due to what players could do with his equipment, especially his EMP’s. However, this is all set to change.
EMP’s No Longer Working
Launching the game’s newest update, Ubisoft took to their blog in order to talk about it, as well as what was coming in the future. This was when they were asked why Thatcher’s EMP’s were no longer as effective as they once were. As Ubisoft explains it, they’re going to weaken the operators abilities going forward.
Jean-Baptiste Halle summed it up by saying:
“EMP [temporarily] disabling things like Alibi’s Prisma, Maestro’s Turrets, or Bullet Proof Cameras are first steps towards bigger changes that we have in mind for Thatcher. In general, we are not satisfied with the interaction of the EMP and electronic gadgets when this interaction is a simple destruction. We believe that it is often too binary and doesn’t leave enough room for counterplays.”
Right now, there’s no clear timeline as to when Ubisoft will finish weakening Thatcher. Obviously, however, this has already begun and players have noticed. Ubisoft hasn’t mentioned what else they’ll be targeting, so Rainbow Six Siege players are being left somewhat in the dark about it.
This isn’t the only news about the game in recent days. Players will now be banned for using slurs. The first strike will ban players for 27 minutes. Strike two and three will have two hour bans. After that, players risk being permanently banned from the game.
This has resulted in many players speaking out against the policy. Many have indicated, however, that these players might be the ones at risk of being banned for slurs. When asked about it on Twitter, Ubisoft simply replied “Good.”
