The Culling 2 hasn’t exactly had the best of times. Players were hesitant about the game before it even released, and rightly so. Development began even before the original title was finished. Add on the fact that The Culling finished development a whole two months after it was released, and things didn’t look hopeful.
The Culling was originally well received. However, as the game developed further, that started to dull. Players started to abandon the game. Instead of working on the first game’s issues, the developers began working on The Culling 2.
The game bombed spectacularly. Upon its release last week, developers Xaviant thought it’d be a hit. To date, its highest consecutive player count is 296. That dropped dramatically after a day or so. Currently, it’s lucky to have a single player.
Xaviant is taking the game down. Speaking in an announcement, the developers said:
“I think that that’s an area that we owe you an apology. Because when we thought back to day one of The Culling and how we handled that launch, we realized that we changed too much, too fast. I know there was something very unique and very special about that game that we were too eager to modify, to balance, to re-tune. And so we took a game that you guys loved and we changed it out from under you and I want to apologize for that.”
Because of that, Xaviant are taking the game down from Steam and will be working to release the original build of The Culling. However, there’s no set time-frame as to when that will happen. Hopefully, the developers will be able to release something close to the original release of the game. Fans fell in love with it for a reason.
