This weekend a new entry in the record books was made as Air Raid for the Atari 2600 sold for an astonishing £33,433 on GameGavel after receiving 31 bids in the course of 11 days.

According to Mike Kennedy, a member of staff at GameGavel, this makes Air Raid “The most expensive ‘consumer available video game ever sold at auction”.

The previous record, again made by selling a copy of Air Raid in early 2012, sold for £31,600. This auction is the third boxed version of Air Raid to go onto sale and is the only one to include an instruction manual also.

Guess our parents were right when they said “keep the box” when we were kids…
