5 PlayStation Games That Need To Be Remade

Sony has been knocking it out of the park lately with releasing and announcing remade games. Earlier this year, Insomniac gifted us with a fully remade Ratchet and Clank and in the near future Naughty Dog will be releasing a fully remade Crash Bandicoot trilogy. Announcements like this always get my mind working away at what other games Sony could remake or push to have remade for their PlayStation 4 console. These are five original PlayStation games that I would love to see have new life on the PlayStation 4.

5) Syphon Filter

(SYPHON FILTER – SONY)

Syphon Filter was Rainbow Six: Siege before Ubisoft even had a twinkle in their eye. The series followed protagonist Gabriel Logan on his quest to rid the world of terrorism; seems like that would fit right in nowadays. The game was played in a third-person perspective and involved stealth elements along with puzzle solving. At the time of its release in 1999 all of those mechanics were relatively new. Unfortunately, Sony let this series die with the PSP and we’ve not heard from it in quite sometime. With the current world climate, I think that Logan could jump back onto the world’s stage and continue his fight against terrorism at 60 FPS. Plus, Sony could remake the first three and put them all onto one disc, which looks like that’s to be the path of Crash.

4) Silent Hill

(Silent Hill – KONAMI)

This one, I know, is a pipe dream, but nonetheless I would love to see this title remade. I had just turned eighteen when this title came out and I never actually finished the game until I was in my thirties; it spooked me out so much. I remember teenage me throwing the controller down when the babies started attacking me in the school and yelling, “Nope!” I want that type of experience again. P.T. did that to me, and some of The Evil Within made my skin crawl, but nothing that made me shut off my system and find daylight. Konami is in disarray, and with the recent partnership with Kojima, it looks very unlikely that Sony could pull this off, but if they could – man, what an amazing remake we would have.

3) Jade Cocoon

(JADE COCOON – CRAVE ENTERTAINMENT)

This is one of the more interesting titles that I have picked up for my PlayStation. You play as a young boy, Levant, who lives in the town of Syrus and is destined to become a Cocoon Master. To become the best Cocoon Master, Levant must capture and purify minions. This sounds somewhat familiar, right? After playing it for a while I did want a fully realized Pokémon RPG on the next Nintendo console. Right now, Jade Cocoon is probably the closest that we have, and its sequel. Genki and Crave Entertainment did a great job with this title, and I would love to see them give it another go on the PlayStation 4. Jade Cocoon, even though filled with mostly bug monsters, could give Pokémon a run for its money if done properly.

2) Dino Crisis

(DINO CRISIS – SONY)

Dino Crisis has been an unloved series once we got past the PlayStation era, with a goofy space dinosaur adventure being its final story. The first game in the trilogy was focused on survival and finding lots of keycards. Basically, it was Resident Evil with dinosaurs. The menus, controls and overall feel of the game are what made it fun. What made it annoying was that you had to find two parts to keycards. I cannot tell you how many times I bled out looking for a second piece of a card. Hopefully a remake will remove all the broken keycards and give the controls a nice overhaul. If Capcom can remake Resident Evil and make it near perfect, I have faith they can do the same for Dino Crisis, part one and part two. We should just let number three die in space.

1) Spyro The Dragon

(SPYRO THE DRAGON – SONY)

I have been trying to play Spyro for years on my PlayStation but something always seems to distract me from it. I figure that if Insomniac remade Ratchet and Clank, why can’t they redo the Spyro Trilogy as well and follow some more in Naughty Dog’s footsteps? I may get to this trilogy soon, but I am having a very hard time finding Ripto’s Rage, and I can’t very well only play one and three, can I? With the Crash announcement I’ve stopped looking for the first two, seeing as I’ve only found the third. If Insomniac announces this after they release their Spiderman game I won’t have to hunt for them anymore. I will just wait for the remakes and revel in their glory as I play them on my huge flat screen.

Are there any titles I may have missed? Some unknown gem that I should look at one night? Let me know in the comments!
