5 Characters You Should Be Summoning in Kingdom Hearts III

During an interview with the staff of DisneyExaminer, Kingdom Hearts Destiny, KHInsider, Kingdom Hearts Union, and KH13, Tetsuya Nomura confirmed that summons will be returning in Kingdom Hearts III.

The mechanic of bringing Disney characters to your side as summons like Final Fantasy did with aeons in X is a great way to bring lesser known franchises or films they weren’t able to bring to the game previously without creating a whole new world.

I’ll admit that most of these picks are a bit offbeat, but here are the five summons from the House of Mouse that I hope we see in Kingdom Hearts III.

Baymax (Big Hero 6)

“How can I assist you, Sora?” (Big Hero 6, Walt Disney Pictures)

While I hope Disney and Square Enix include San Fransokyo as a world in KH III, a summon for Big Hero 6‘s Baymax would suffice. The healthcare companion could assist Sora in battles by either healing ailments or fighting with his kung-fu knowledge. Baymax also has a rocket fist and the ability of flight which can both be used in a fight against the heartless or bosses. With him coming at times of need for Hiro, it seems to make the most sense for Baymax to be a summon in the game for when Sora needs medical help.

Herbie (The Love Bug)

Herbie would be such a strange but cool choice for die-hard Disney fans. (Herbie: Fully Loaded, Walt Disney Pictures)

If Square Enix and Disney really wanted to look deep into the Disney Vault, Herbie could be a really cool summon in KH 3 for fans. The Volkswagen bug with the number 53’s a living race car. It goes into all sorts of different adventures and causes mischief.

In Kingdom Hearts 3, Herbie could drive Sora all over the heartless spinning and enacting mystifying stunts as seen in the movies and in Disneyland Paris. It would be great if the theme of the Herbie movie plays during the pre-cutscene while he is summoned. Seeing that Herbie’s last movie, Herbie: Fully Loaded was way back in 2005, This is probably my most wanted because it’s so out there!

Kim Possible

Kim Possible would be a great way to introduce the Disney Channel to Kingdom Hearts (Kim Possible, Disney Channel)

One element of Disney which has not been explored in the Kingdom Hearts series yet is the Disney Channel. While I obviously don’t want the likes of That’s So Raven or Hannah Montana as summons, I think it would be cool to have a character represented from the shows I watched when I was younger. While this may sound absurd at first, a straight-to-DVD movie, The Three Muskateers, made it to Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, so anything’s possible.

Of all the shows on Disney Channel, Kim Possible‘s one of the most likely as it’s the one of its longest running shows. Kim Possible was a popular show back in the 2000’s and with her spy training and acrobatics, she could be a great ally for Sora. The show’s humor can also be driven into the summon in a way. Maybe KH III can even include her sidekicks Ron Stoppable and Rufus as they almost always help her on her missions.

R2-D2 (Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope)

R2-D2 is an iconic character which would be cool as a summon. (Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Walt Disney Pictures)

One of film’s most dependable friends is R2-D2, the robot who always comes to the rescue when someone is in trouble. While the addition of Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts may be objectionable to some as it isn’t traditionally Disney, it’d be cool to see such a cherished character in the dearly beloved Kingdom Hearts.

Sure, there aren’t that many abilities that R2 can do, but Square Enix have been able to make summons of Chicken Little and Mushu, who aren’t usually able to contribute to a battle. R2-D2 can stun enemies and can distract them away from Sora. He would be a great way to celebrate the franchise and the character itself if Square Enix and Disney decide to not give Star Wars a full world.

Rocket Raccoon (Guardians of the Galaxy)

Imagine Rocket Racooon in a battle like this with Sora instead of Groot! (Guardians of the Galaxy, Walt Disney Pictures)

While I don’t want the complicated plotlines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Kingdom Hearts, it should get a nod as the movies have been extremely popular and revolutionary in terms of special effects. One of the biggest movies of last year was Guardians of the Galaxy, which features a rag tag team of badass anti-heroes. The one character from the film who would be a great fit as a summon is Rocket Raccoon.

With Rocket on Sora’s shoulder (like with Groot in the film), he can shoot his assault rifle in a circle with Sora casting fire spells in a similar direction. He could also sling insults at enemies and maybe even Sora as they’re fighting. Rocket would be a funny addition as a summon and I hope he makes it into KH III.
