<p>The man behind all the satisfying puzzles in the <em>Professor Layton</em> series, Akira Tago, has passed from interstitial pneumonia on March 6. He was 90 years old.</p>
<p>Best-selling author, professor, psychologist, and puzzle designer, Tago was best known for his series of quiz books “Atama no Taiso” (brain exercises). His first in the series was published in 1966 to great success, selling more than 2.65 million copies. Today, 23 volumes of his quiz books exist, and the series with its offshoots have sold over 12 million copies.</p>
<p>Fans of the <em>Professor Layton</em> series will remember Tago for the hundreds of clever puzzles offered in the handheld adventures &#8211; adventures that follow a witty <span style="font-weight: 400;">archaeology </span>professor as he solves mysteries one logic puzzle at a time.</p>
