REPORT: Alex Garland Picks Up Oscar Isaac For Annihilation

(Ex-Machina, A24, Mongrel Media)

After the Sci-Fi indie hit, Ex-Machina, director Alex Garland and his cast were bumped up even higher on the A-list. Alicia Vikander picked up her first Oscar (no pun intended) with her supporting role in The Danish Girl; Domnhall Gleeson continues to star in numerous movies, including Best Picture nominees, The Revenant, and Brooklyn; and Oscar Isaac starred in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now Isaac is going to get back together with Garland for his sophomore directorial effort, Annihilation.

The film will be an adaptation on the book of the same name that centers around a group of women that set out to explore a place known as Area X. One woman in the group goes on the journey to find answers to her husband’s disappearance. Said to be starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, and Tessa Thompson, Garland’s follow-up sounds incredibly interesting. The acclaimed writer and director calls it “surrealist science fiction” and said it reminds him of J.G. Ballard. You can count me in. Shooting is scheduled for this Spring in London.
