Over the New Year holiday, Sega has been removing games in the Aliens franchise from Valve’s Steam service. So far, 2010’s Aliens vs. Predator and 2013’s Aliens: Colonial Marines has been taken down. Both games were poorly recieved by critics. However, last year’s Aliens: Isolation from Creative Assembly has had a much better critical reception and is still available.
Sega has not yet revealed why they have decided to take down these two games. It may be a licensing issue between Sega and the rights holder 20th Century Fox. It may also be because Sega and developer Gearbox Software are currently embroiled in a class action lawsuit regarding Colonial Marines. Fans of the franchise believe that both companies are guilty of falsely advertising the game at trade shows.
