AMD have been left out in the cold in terms of keeping up with both Nvidia’s GPU performance, and their release schedule for new GPU’s. However, what if after all this time AMD has been analyzing the competition’s GPU performance progress to determine their expected overall improvements? That’s just a bit of speculation.
Before we talk about what may happen in the future, let’s discuss the present: AMD’s R7 and R9 200 series GPUs finished with the release of the R9 295×2 way back in April of 2014, whereas Nvidia had the GTX 700 series out the year before, (2013) which portrayed similar performance or better once overclocked. With the release of the GTX 900 series of GPUs, Nvidia once again steals the top seat for Best GPU performance. With that said, AMD have not released a new GPU line yet, so maybe Nvidia is a little quick to claim that seat.
So what has AMD been up to over the last year in terms of GPU manufacturing, and what will their future GPU performance consist of? Only time will tell, as I don’t generally believe rumored specs. Reported by Tweaktown Thursday, AMD CEO Lisa Su said the following during the AMD Q1 2015 Conference call.
“AMD will talk about their upcoming graphics products launches later this quarter”.
“The company would like to see some regain of share in both the desktop and the notebook business”.
“In the second half of the year, I think we would like to see our products take a strong position as well as hopefully the market gets stronger as well”. – Reported by Tweaktown
This is quite interesting news, because it seems that AMD want to generate harsher competition with their upcoming GPU line, which is a great sign. We can never hate on healthy competition, because in the end, consumers will hopefully get better products.
