Reiji Kawashima is a voice actor from the Aichi prefecture of Japan. Besides voicing Fushi from To Your Eternity, he’s also worked on Shadows House as Patrick/Ricky, Ekimemo! -Station Memories!- as Master, and Skygalleon of the Blue Sky as Eros and Krishna. Crunchyroll graciously provided us an opportunity to interview Kawashima to discuss his motivations, how to become a proper voice actor, and more before his upcoming panel on Virtual Crunchyroll Expo.
What inspired you to start voice acting?
My father loved manga, and I was exposed to anime and video games from a very young age. In particular, when I played Final Fantasy X, I was moved to tears by the story of the game, and that was one of the original experiences that made me want to become a voice actor.
What is the easiest and most challenging part of voicing Fushi from To Your Eternity?
In “To Your Eternity”, the characters’ emotions are very carefully and delicately depicted. The easiest thing is to be able to read the manga and feel the emotions wholeheartedly. The hardest thing is to express the complex emotions with care and delicacy in my voice.
I believe that people with more life experience can play their roles better in acting. People, books, and travel are the three main elements that help us grow. I believe that the many happy and sad experiences you have had will help you if you ever want to become a voice actor. …… Let’s take a book and go on an eternal journey like Fushi! (laughs)
