Animal Crossing New Horizons Summer Update 2

A second summer update to the popular Nintendo life sim is coming July 30

Animal Crossing New Horizons Summer Update 2

Animal Crossing New Horizons got its first summer update recently, which added swimming to the game. Though it seems Nintendo already has a second update coming our way which will add even more fun features to the popular life sim. The second summer update launches on July 30, adding fireworks, dreaming, and even an island backup service.

The fireworks show adds some spectacle to the game. The show begins every Sunday in August at 7 pm, filling the sky above your island with fireworks. You will even be able to use your custom designs as fireworks patterns.

A Dreamy Paradise

Dreams are now a thing in Animal Crossing as well. Dreams allow you to visit other islands while sleeping in your bed. While sleeping, you will be greeted by Luna. Luna will give you the option to even share your island as a dream with others, allowing others to explore your island in their dreams.

In dreams, nothing is permanent since nothing is being saved. Which means you can pretty much do anything you want without any real consequence. So you can explore as much as you want.

Keep in mind, in order to access the dreaming feature, new players will need to upgrade their tent to a home first. So new players might need a few days before they can access this feature.

Island Backup And Restoration

Another major new feature of this update is the Island Backup and Restoration service. Only available to Nintendo Switch Online members, this service automatically backs up and saves your island and user save data to the internet at certain times. This service allows you to restore your island in case your system is lost or damaged.

To restore your island on a new or repaired Switch, contact Nintendo Consumer Support, and your island will be restored as it was when it was backed up! This is a handy feature given how much time most of us spend on these islands and how much work we put into them. Knowing that our islands are backed up somewhere definitely gives a sense of security.

Keep in mind this functionality is separate from the save data cloud functionality on the Switch. In addition, functionality for moving islands to other Switch systems is planned. Details on this will be announced in the future.

A Summer Vacation

So take some time this summer to explore your island and have fun with these new features. We are excited to see what else Nintendo has planned for us when the next update launches this fall. In the meantime, it’s time to get dreaming or watch some fireworks. See you on your islands!
