<p>The <em>Animal Crossing</em> series creator <a class="zem_slink" title="Katsuya Eguchi" href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp" target="_blank" rel="homepage">Katsuya Eguchi</a> stated at GDC 2014 that the adorable <em><a class="zem_slink" title="Animal Crossing: New Leaf" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_Crossing%3A_New_Leaf" target="_blank" rel="wikipedia">Animal Crossing: New Leaf</a> </em>3DS game from <a class="zem_slink" title="Nintendo" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=34.991675,135.766294444&;spn=0.01,0.01&;q=34.991675,135.766294444 (Nintendo)&;t=h" target="_blank" rel="geolocation">Nintendo</a> has sold 7.38 million copies worldwide. In addition to the quaint small-town <a class="zem_slink" title="Life simulation game" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_simulation_game" target="_blank" rel="wikipedia">life simulator</a> <em>New Leaf</em>, the 3DS console has 42.74 million units sold.</p>
<p>The mystery of why <em>Animal Crossing: New Leaf</em> is such a success has been solved. Katsuya Eguchi the producer of <em>Animal Crossing</em> said at GDC, “&#8230;we wanted to ensure it would be something that men and women of all ages would have fun playing”. Aya Kyogoku, a female <a class="zem_slink" title="Game design" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_design" target="_blank" rel="wikipedia">game designer</a> from the <a class="zem_slink" title="Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development" href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp" target="_blank" rel="homepage">Nintendo EAD</a> group (who works on the <em><a class="zem_slink" title="è¿è¤æµ©æ²»" href="http://www.last.fm/music/%25E8%25BF%2591%25E8%2597%25A4%25E6%25B5%25A9%25E6%25B2%25BB" target="_blank" rel="lastfm">Zelda</a></em>, <em>Animal Crossing</em> and <em>Super Mario</em> games) and the <em>New Leaf</em> project leader said diversity of men and women from various ages and backgrounds was the key to making New Leaf reach a varied audience.</p>
