Animal Crossing: New Leaf Update Now Live

Animal Crossing Mobile App / Nintendo

The Animal Crossing: New Leaf Update for the 3DS is officially live and ready to download!

With this free update comes the ability to use amiibo within New Leaf. As promised in a previous Nintendo Direct, mayors may now add new villagers by tapping certain amiibo cards and figurines. Amiibo can be used after locating the magic lamp and speaking with Wisp who lets you tap amiibo and invite them to your town. Certain amiibo will let your village be full of cows, ducks or cute kittens by wishing it true!

There are 16 Animal Crossing amiibo figures currently released that allow players to invite specific villagers into their town through the use of a rad RV park! After speaking with them, you may be offered a Wii U console or 3DS XL item. These will let you play the new New Leaf mini games: Desert Island Escape and Animal Crossing Puzzle League. If you don’t plan on buying any new amiibo figures or cards, mayors can still obtain a Wii U or 3DS by buying fortune cookies at Nook’s shop.

RVs and characters will appear in the new camping ground run by the lovable hippie Harvey. He offers special furniture that can only be purchased with Meow Coupons. These are supposed to be easy to earn as you complete the Town Initiatives like gathering fruit or pulling a number of weeds. These Meow coupons are also the currency used to buy the items found in the amiibo RV visitors.

There are plenty of amiibo-free features added in the update. Now mayors can store pictures and share them with friends. A much-needed store room can be purchased from Nook’s Homes that can store all those extra furniture items and clothes that are lying in your New Leaf basement. Plus the Happy Home Designer-way of moving furniture in a room by using a grid on the bottom touch screen is added in too!

A total of 50 New Leaf amiibo cards are being released in blind packs on December 2nd. The same release date for the Animal Crossing New Leaf Welcome Amiibo physical edition of the game.
