Anime And Manga News This Week (01/25-01/31)

It’s a new week and a new set of anime and manga news to cover, so I’ll be listing the best updates and announcements we received throughout the week.

Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku Anime Adaptation Announced

Earlier this week, the eighth issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump 2020 magazine announced that Yūji Kaku’s Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku manga is getting a TV anime adaptation. The adaptation was announced right after the manga ended on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ app and website on Monday.

Yūji Kaku had this to say about the announcement:

“An anime adaptation! … it makes me so happy but, it hasn’t really sunk in yet, and it feels like a dream. To all the anime staff, I leave the characters of Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku in your capable hands. Lord Reality, if this is a dream, please do not wake me up.”

The manga first launched on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ website and app in January 2018. VIZ Media is releasing the manga digitally in English through its Shonen Jump service, and Shueisha is also releasing the manga through its MANGA Plus service.

Anime News Network describes Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku’s story as:

The manga centers on Gabimaru, once exalted as the strongest ninja, but who has now quit his trade, violating the laws of his village. After being captured, he claims he has nothing left to live for. However, due to his superhuman levels of training, he has inadvertently survived multiple executions, from attempts at beheading to burning at the stake. The executioner Sagiri Asaemon tells him that he has lingering attachment to life, and issues him a mission to win his acquittal: to find the elixir of immortality.

MEGALOBOX 2: NOMAD Announced

Earlier this week, TMS Entertainment announced the sequel to the 2018 fan favorite boxing anime MEGALOBOX, titled MEGALOBOX 2: NOMAD. The anime is slated to premiere sometime in April. The studio also revealed the first teaser trailer and key art (found above), alongside the anime’s staff, cast, and synopsis.

Shinka no Mi Anime Adaptation Announced

Earlier this week, the official twitter account for the isekai fantasy light novel series written by Miku and illustrated by Umiko, Shinka no Mi ~Shiranai Uchi ni Kachigumi Jinsei~ (“The Fruit of Evolution – My Unexpected Life as a Winner”), announced that the series will be adapted into a TV anime.

A synopsis for the light novel series via Crunchyroll can be seen below:

Published in Japan by Futabasha under their Monster Bunko imprint, Shinka no Mi ~Shiranai Uchi ni Kachigumi Jinsei~ follows Seiichi Hiiragi, an unfortunate young man who is despised by his classmates because they consider him homely, chubby, and smelly. Seiichi’s luck goes from bad to worse when his class is transported to another world, but he finds himself alone in the wilderness and pursued by an amorous female gorilla named Saria. The disastrous lives of the unlikely pair take a positive turn after they ingest the legendary “fruit of evolution”, and an unexpected transformation takes place…

Yūenchi: Baki Gaiden Anime Hinted at

Earlier this week, Baku Yumemakura, the author of the spin-off Baki illustrated novel Yūenchi: Baki Gaiden, announced that a “martial arts novel” of his will receive an anime adaptation. The announcement was made in the 2021 ninth issue of Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shonen Champion.

Hula Fulla Dance New Cast Members

Earlier this week, ANN and the official website for Aniplex’s original anime film Hula Fulla Dance has revealed two new cast members.  Hula Fulla Dance is set to premiere in Japan early summer 2021. The film was first announced in November 2020 with a teaser trailer and poster.

Anime News Network describes Hula Fulla Dance’s story as:

The film’s story centers on Hiwa Natsunagi (played by Haruka Fukuhara), a novice at hula dancing who nevertheless takes a job as a hula dancer at the real life Spa Resort Hawaiians hotel. The film shows the relationships between her and her colleagues. The same hotel in Iwaki city, Fukushima was also the setting for the popular 2006 film Hula Girls. Iwaki is also the setting for Gaina’s Hulaing Babies anime, which is similarly centered on hula dancing.

Hetalia World Stars New PV

Earlier this week, ANN and the official website for the Hetalia World Stars manga revealed a new promotional video for the upcoming anime. The video features the theme song “Chikyū Marugoto Hug Shitainda” (“I Want to Hug the Whole Earth”) performed by Daisuke Namikawa as Italy.

Fruits Basket the Final Announced

This week, the official twitter account for Natsuki Takaya’s romance/fantasy manga series Fruits Basket, announced that Fruits Basket the Final is officially set to premiere this April. The announcement was made alongside a new key visual.

Crunchyroll streamed the current Fruits Basket reboot series as it aired, and describes the anime as:

Tohru Honda thought her life was headed for misfortune when a family tragedy left her living in a tent. When her small home is discovered by the mysterious Soma clan, she suddenly finds herself living with Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Soma. But she quickly learns their family has a bizarre secret of their own: when hugged by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Zodiac!

Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Anime Announced

Earlier this week, it was announced that the light novel series written by Shuichi Nimaru and illustrated by Shigureui Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Love Comedy (“A Romantic Comedy Where the Childhood Friend Absolutely Will Not Lose”) will be getting an anime adaptation, scheduled for April 2021 in Japan. The news came alongside a new PV (seen above).

Crunchyroll describes the light novel’s story as:

The story of Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Love Comedy follows Kuroha Shida, a high school student who is convinced that her childhood friend and next door neighbor, Sueharu Maru, is in love with her. Kuroha’s dreams are shattered, however, when Sueharu admits that he has feelings for Shirokusa Kachi, a beautiful girl who is the school idol, an accomplished writer, and a gravure model. When Sueharu discovers that Shirokusa already has a boyfriend, Kuroha suggests that she and Sueharu embark on a plan of “revenge” together.

The Dungeon of Black Company Anime Adaptation Announced

Earlier this week, the official website for the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Yōhei Yasumura’s The Dungeon of Black Company (“Meikyū Black Company”) manga revealed its main cast and staff listing alongside a new visual and July premiere date.

Seven Seas Entertainment is publishing The Dungeon of Black Company’s manga in English, and describes its story as:

Kinji, who lacks any kind of work ethic, is a layabout in his modern life. One day, he finds himself transported to another world–but not in a grand fantasy of a hero welcomed with open arms. He’s immediately shoved into a terrible job! Now enslaved by an evil mining company in a fantasy world, Kinji’s about to really learn the meaning of hard work!

My Friend’s Little Sister Has It In for Me! Anime Announced

During the “GA Fes 2021” live-stream event, it was announced that Ghost Mikawa’s My Friend’s Little Sister Has It In for Me! (Tomodachi no Imōto ga Ore ni Dake Uzai) light novel series is getting a TV anime adaptation.

J-Novel Club is releasing the novels in English, and describes the story as:

If a girl teases you, that means she likes you!Unfortunately, Akiteru knows from experience that isn’t the case. Because every girl he interacts with shows him nothing but scorn, and he’s not scored a single date from it! Luckily, he’s more concerned with securing a spot for him and his game-development buddies at his uncle’s business. But when his uncle throws him a condition that involves playing the part of his daughter’s boyfriend, Akiteru has no choice but to take it. What will his best friend’s sister Iroha, who bullies him relentlessly, think of the news?

I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level Anime Adaptation Announced

During the same live-streamed “GA Fes 2021” event, it was announced that author Kisetsu Morita and illustrator Benio’s I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level light novel series will be getting a TV anime adaptation, alongside two new visuals and a Promotional Video.

Yen Press describes the story as:

After living a painful life as an office worker, Azusa ended her short life by dying from overworking. So when she found herself reincarnated as an undying, unaging witch in a new world, she vows to spend her days stress free and as pleasantly as possible. She ekes out a living by hunting down the easiest targets – the slimes! But after centuries of doing this simple job, she’s ended up with insane powers…how will she maintain her low key life now?!

The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt Anime Adaptation Announced

During the “GA Fes 2021” event, it was announced that Toru Toba’s The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt (Hey, How About Treason?) light novel series will be adapted into a TV anime.

Yen Press is publishing the light novels in English, and describes the story as:

The prince of this small and weak kingdom strives for only one thing: selling out his country and living a quiet life in leisure! Sadly, the greatest obstacle he will ever face is his own genius…! As he achieves ever greater accomplishments, he earns more and more favor with the people of his kingdom…which makes fulfilling his own dreams all the harder!!!

The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest Anime Adaptation Announced

It was announced during the live-streamed “GA Fes 2021” event that Shinkoshoto’s The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest  light novel series will be adapted into a TV anime.

Square Enix Manga & Books is publishing the manga adaptation in English, and describes the story as:

His strength limited by the magical crest with which he was born, Mathias, the world’s most powerful sage, decides reincarnation is necessary to become the strongest of all. Upon his rebirth as a young boy, Mathias is thrilled to discover he’s been born with the optimal crest for magical combat on his first try! Unfortunately, the world he’s been born into has abysmally poor standards when it comes to magic, and everyone thinks he’s still marked for failure! Now it’s up to Mathias to prove everyone wrong…world’s strongest sage-style!

The Reincarnated Sage’s Alternate World Life Anime Adaption Announced

The live-streamed “GA Fes 2021” event and ANN also announced that Shinkoshoto’s Tensei Kenja no Isekai Life ~Daini no Shokugyō wo Ete, Sekai Saikyou ni Narimashita (The Reincarnated Sage’s Alternate World Life: I Got a Second Profession, and Became the Most Powerful in the World) light novel series will receive an anime adaptation.

The story centers around Yūji Sano who works at a company that is harsh on its employees. After bringing some overtime work back home, he gets a message on his computer: “You have been summoned to an alternate world!” It is a game-like world, complete with status bars and skills. Yūji tames a slime monster and thus becomes a tamer. Then, he suddenly attains a second profession — sage — and awakens magical powers within himself. Yūji’s alternate world adventure begins when he follows a slime, that seemingly weakest of all monsters.

Goblin Slayer Season 2 Announced

ANN announced during the live-streamed “GA Fes 2021” event that the TV anime adaptation of Kumo Kagyu’s Goblin Slayer novel series will receive a second season. The announcement came alongside a new teaser visual.

Yen Press releases the Goblin Slayer novels in English. The anime adaptation premiered in Japan on October 2018. Crunchyroll streamed the first season with subtitles as it aired, and Funimation streamed the series with an English dub.

Crunchyroll describes the anime’s first season as:

“I’m not saving the world. I just kill goblins.” Rumor has it that, in a certain guild in the middle of nowhere, there is an extraordinary man who has climbed all the way to the Silver rank just by killing goblins. At the same guild, a priestess who’s just become a new adventurer has formed her first party… and the man who ends up rescuing that party when they get into trouble is none other than the Goblin Slayer

The Executioner and Her Way of Life Anime Adaptation Announced

This week, Warner Bros. Japan announced that Mato Sato and Nilitsu’s The Executioner and Her Way of Life (Shokei Shōjo no Virgin Road) light novel series is getting a TV anime adaptation. Warner Bros. Japan via ANN also revealed the main voice cast along with the character descriptions:

Iori Saeki as Menou, the Executioner: A young executioner girl who has exceptional magical talent. She is strongly dedicated to her mission and tries to finish off Akari before her power gets out of hands. She gets close to her targets with friendly manner to grasp their ability before killing them. Her main weapons are short blade and sacred scripture.

Moeka Kishimoto as Akari, the Lost One: She is affectionate and easy-going. Menou is unable to kill her because of her ability even though she is not aware of it herself. She begins her journey with Menou, without knowing her true intentions.

Yen Press is releasing the novels as Virgin Road in English, and describes the story as:

The Lost Ones are wanderers who come here from a distant world known as “Japan.” No one knows how or why they leave their homes. The only thing that is certain is that they bring disaster and calamity. The duty of exterminating them without remorse falls to Menou, a young Executioner. When she meets Akari, it seems like just another job…until she discovers it’s impossible to kill this girl! And when Menou begins to search for a way to defeat this immortality, Akari is more than happy to tag along! So begins a journey that will change Menou forever… In addition to being an intriguing addition to the ever popular isekai genre of light novels, Virgin Road is an intriguing release due to the fact that it includes elements not commonly seen in light novels released in English—a female protagonist and a yuri storyline.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? IV and OVA Announced

Warner Bros. Japan also announced the fourth season of the anime adaptation of Fujino Ōmori and Suzuhito Yasuda’s Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? light novel series. The new season is scheduled to premiere in Japan sometime in 2022.

Additionally, a new trailer was released alongside stills of the third OVA in the series titled Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? III OAV: Is It Wrong to Crave Hot spring in Orario? – God of the Hot Spring Forever which will launch on April 28.

Warner Bros. Japan describes the OVA’s story as:

A strange hot spring resort has suddenly sprung up in Orario. Since it appeared, people visited there daily to relieve stress and daily. Of course, Bell and the other faces of the Hestia Familia were seen within the crowd. However, there was a group of people who are suspicious of the popular resort…

Hot spring, conspiracy and secret hidden behind the veil… After dazzling adventure, Bell witnesses the truth of it all!

My Home Hero Manga Ends

It was revealed in ninth issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine earlier this week that Naoki Yamakawa and Masashi Asaki’s My Home Hero manga will reach its climax in the magazine’s coming 10th issue on Monday.

Anime News Network describes the manga’s story as:

The manga centers on a salaryman who has a reliable wife and a daughter in university who can sometimes act a bit rebellious, but has a happy life in his own way. Until one day he finds out his daughter has been beaten, and thus begins his journey into a dangerous world to protect his family.
