Anime And Manga News This Week (03/01-03/07)

It’s a new week and a new set of anime and manga news to cover, so I’ll be listing the best updates and announcements we received throughout the week.

The Way of the Househusband Premiere Date

Earlier this week, Netflix announced that it will stream the anime adaptation of Kousuke Oono’s The Way of the Househusband on April 8. A new trailer was also released.

Netflix describes the series as:

This world-class househusband was once a feared legendary member of the yakuza! “The Way of the Househusband” is the long-awaited anime adaptation of the cozy gangster comedy manga about “The Immortal Dragon,” a former yakuza member whose incredible feats are still talked about in the underworld, spending his daily life as a househusband!

Shaman King Reboot Netflix Announcement and Premiere Date

Earlier this week, Netflix revealed it will stream Shaman King (2021), the reboot of the anime adaptation of Hiroyuki Takei’s Shaman King manga series later this year. Additionally, the anime is scheduled to broadcast in April 2021 in Japan. A new trailer and key visual was also revealed.

Kodansha Comics releases the manga in English and describes it as:

In the world of Shaman King, shamans possess mysterious powers that allow them to commune with gods, spirits, and even the dead…and Manta Oyamada’s about to learn all about them, because his class just welcomed a new transfer student: Yoh Asakura, a boy from way off in Izumo…and a shaman in training!

RE-MAIN Announced

Studio MAPPA recently revealed that it is producing a new original water polo television anime titled RE-MAIN, with Tiger & Bunny head writer Masafumi Nishida serving as the co-creator, chief director, series script supervisor, scriptwriter, and audio director. The anime is set to premiere sometime this year.

Anime News Network describes the anime as:

The anime’s story centers on Minato, a boy who stopped playing water polo due to a certain incident in the winter of his third middle school year. He picks the sport back up again with a new team when he starts in high school, but the fledgling team runs into many problem

Fruits Basket: The Final Premiere Date

The official Twitter account for the Fruits Basket anime announced earlier this week that Fruits Basket: The Final, will premiere on April 5.

Crunchyroll streamed previous seasons and describes the anime as:

Tohru Honda thought her life was headed for misfortune when a family tragedy left her living in a tent. When her small home is discovered by the mysterious Soma clan, she suddenly finds herself living with Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Soma. But she quickly learns their family has a bizarre secret of their own: when hugged by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Zodiac!

The Honor Student at Magic High School Details

The official website for the anime adaptation of Tsutomu Sato and Yu Mori’s The Honor Student at Magic High School manga recently revealed a new trailer and key visual for the anime alongside its staff details. The anime is set to premiere sometime this year.

Yen Press publishes the manga in English, and describes it as:

A century has passed since magic–true magic, the stuff of legends–has returned to the world. It is spring, the season of new beginnings, and a new class of students is about to begin their studies at the First National Magic University Affiliated High School, nickname: First High.

A manga spin-off of the immensely popular light novel series The Irregular at Magic High School, The Honor Student at Magic High School follows the events of the original series as seen through the eyes of Miyuki Shiba, Tatsuya’s sister. The life of an honor student comes with a lot of expectations…and unexpected hidden feelings?!

The Rising of the Shield Hero 2 Premiere Date

The official Crunchyroll Twitter account recently announced that the second season of The Rising of the Shield Hero TV anime titled The Rising of the Shield Hero 2, will premiere sometime in October.

Crunchyroll streamed the first season as it aired in Japan and describes its story as:

Iwatani Naofumi, a run-of-the-mill otaku, finds a book in the library that summons him to another world. He is tasked with joining the sword, spear, and bow as one of the Four Cardinal Heroes and fighting the Waves of Catastrophe as the Shield Hero. Excited by the prospect of a grand adventure, Naofumi sets off with his party. However, merely a few days later, he is betrayed and loses all his money, dignity, and respect. Unable to trust anyone anymore, he employs a slave named Raphtalia and takes on the Waves and the world. But will he really find a way to overturn this desperate situation?

The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 Announced

The official Twitter account for the anime adaptation of Shu’s The Misfit of Demon King Academy: History’s Strongest Demon King Reincarnates and Goes to School with His Descendants (Maō Gakuin no Futekigōsha ~Shijō Saikyō no Maō no Shiso, Tensei Shite Shison-tachi no Gakkō e Kayō) light novel series announced that the anime will receive a second season. The season will air in two cours. SILVER LINK is animating the second season.

Square Enix publishes The Misfit of Demon King Academy manga in English and describes its story as:

Despite their appetite for destruction, even demon kings tire of all the blood and chaos sometimes! When Anos reincarnates in the hopes of a more peaceful life, he ends up going to school with his descendants in his old castle 2,000 years later. But with magic on its last legs in this era, no one is able to assess Anoth’s true power!

The Devil is a Part-Timer! Season 2 Announced

The official Twitter account for the anime adaptation of Satoshi Wagahara’s The Devil is a Part-Timer! (Hataraku Maou-sama!) light novel series confirmed that the anime is getting a second season. The anime’s main cast will return for the second season. A promotional video for the upcoming season was also revealed.

Yen Press publishes both the light novels and manga adaptation in English, and describes the series’ story as:

After being soundly thrashed by the hero Emilia, the Devil King and his general beat a hasty retreat to a parallel universe… only to land plop in the middle of bustling, modern-day Tokyo! Banished From The Heroes’ Party Details

Day 2 of the Kadokawa Light Novel Expo 2020 event revealed a promotional video and July premiere date for the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Zappon and Yasumo’s Banished From The Heroes’ Party (Shin no Nakama janai to Yūsha no Party o Oidasareta node, Henkyō de Slow Life Suru Koto ni Shimashita) light novel series.

Yen Press is publishing the light novels in English, and describes the story as:

Red was once a member of the Hero’s party, a powerful group destined to save the world from the evil forces of Taraxon, the Raging Demon Lord. That is, until one of his comrades kicked him out. Hoping to live the easy life on the frontier, Red’s new goal is to open an apothecary. However, keeping the secret of his former life may not be as simple as he thinks. Remake Our Life! Details

The official website for the TV anime adaptation of Nachi Kio and Eretto’s Boku-tachi no Remake (Remake Our Life!) light novel series revealed a promotional video, July premiere date, and the anime’s opening and ending theme song artists.

Anime News Network describes the series’ story as:

The story centers on the unsuccessful game director Kyōya Hashiba. His company goes bankrupt, and he ends up returning to his parents’ home. He lies in bed thinking about the successful creators of his generation. When he opens his eyes, Kyōya finds that he has gone back in time 10 years to when he started college. He has an opportunity to remake his life, starting as an arts college student. He now lives in a four-person coed share house. Kyōya has the chance to spend his formative years with creators he knows will be famous in the future, but things might not turn out as he expected.

The Detective Is Already Dead Premiere Date

Day 2 of the Kadokawa Light Novel Expo 2020 event revealed a new teaser promotional video and July premiere date for the TV anime adaptation of Nigojū and Umibōzu’s The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mō, Shindeiru.) light novel series. A new key visual was also revealed.

Anime News Network describes the original novels as:

The novels center around Kimihiko Kimizuka, a third-year high school student and former assistant of a detective named Siesta. He made Siesta’s acquaintance three years ago, 10,000 meters above the ground in a hijacked plane. The two went on one death-defying adventure after another for three years that eventually ended with Siesta’s untimely death. Left alone, Kimihiko tries his best to reintegrate himself back into a normal life.

Combatants Will Be Dispatched! Details

The official website for the TV anime adaptation of Natsume Akatsuki’s Combatants Will Be Dispatched! (Sentōin, Hakenshimasu!) light novel series revealed a promotional video, additional cast, April 4 premiere date, and theme song artists for the upcoming anime.

Yen Press releases the novels and manga adaptation in English, and describes the series as:

From the author of KONOSUBA comes a new light novel series! It’s tough being on the front lines for an evil organization, and nobody knows this better than No. 6, a Combatant for the Kisaragi Secret Society. Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Details

Day 2 of the recent Kadokawa Light Novel Expo 2020 event revealed a promotional video, an additional cast member, and a key visual for the TV anime adaptation of Shūichi Nimaru’s Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai (A Romantic Comedy Where the Childhood Friend Absolutely Will Not Lose) light novel series. The anime will premiere on April 14.

Anime News Network describes the series’ story as:

“OsaMake,” as the teen romantic comedy light novels are nicknamed, centers around Sueharu Maru, an average 17-year-old high school boy who has never had a girlfriend, and the “heroine battle” between his beautiful first crush Shirokusa Kachi and his childhood friend Kuroha Shida.

Date A Live IV Details

Day 2 of the Kadokawa Light Novel Expo 2020 event revealed the Date A Live IV television anime series will premiere in October. The event also revealed the show’s returning cast and new staff and studio.

Crunchyroll describes the first season as:

Ordinary high school boy Shido discovers a mysterious girl at ground zero of a recent spacequake. Shido learns, through his sister Kotori, that the girl is one of the Spirits: mystical creatures responsible for the spacequakes. Shido is recruited to help “seal” the sprits and end their threat to mankind. There’s just one catch: the only way to seal a spirit—is to make her fall in love with you.
