Anime and Manga News This Week (03/15-03/21)

It’s the start of a new week and a new set of anime and manga news to cover, so I’ll be listing the best updates and announcements we received last week.

Record of Ragnarok Additional Cast

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. Japan revealed a new key visual and additional cast members for the anime adaptation of the Record of Ragnarok manga. The anime is set to premiere sometime in 2021.

Kyōkai Senki Anime Announced

Earlier this week, Studio Sunrise Beyond and Bandai Spirits announced a new anime titled Kyōkai Senki (War Machines on the Borderline), set to premiere sometime this fall. A new visual and promotional video was also revealed.

Anime News Network describes the anime’s story as:

The story is set in the year 2061, with Japan under a state of occupation by multiple states. The world, including Japan, has been consolidated under the rule of four trade blocs. The entire archipelago now the frontline of conflict. The Japanese people live under a state of constant occupation and oppression, with humanoid war machines called AMAIM patrolling its streets. A young inroverted boy named Amō Shiiba (seen below) has a chance meeting with the autonomous AI Gai, and his acquisition of the AMAIM Kenbu begins a story that will see him attempting to take back Japan.

Another part of the story centers on Gashin Tezuka (below), a reticent and frank 16-year-old member of the Japanese resistance who pilots the AMAIM Ghost to avenge his father.

Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu Anime Announced

Earlier this week, Shogakukan announced that Keisuke Makino and Karei’s Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu (The Moon, Laika, and Nosferatu) light novel series will receive an anime adaptation set to premiere this year.

Anime News Network describes the novels’ story as:

The original novels’ story is set in a fictional world, 10 years after a long war divided the world into two superpowers: the Union of Zirnitra Republics in the east, and the United Kingdom of Arnak in the west. Both of these superpowers now test their ambitions against each other in a space race. In 1960, the Union’s Premier Gergiev announces Project Mechtat (Dream), a prestigious plan to launch manned missions into the final frontier. To this end, the Union establishes the isolated city of Laika 44, where cosmonaut candidates compete for planned manned missions to space, and scientists develop the technology to make it happen, all in an environment of secrecy.

The story centers on Lev Leps, a backup astronaut candidate, and his new companion, the vampire Irina Ruminescu. As part of a daring new Operation Nosferatu, Project Mechtat will use Irina as a test subject for various conditions expected in space, and ultimately as part of a manned mission, with Lev overseeing Irina’s training as a cosmonaut. For reasons of their own, both dream of going into space.

Mieruko-chan Anime Adaptation Announced

This week, the official Twitter account for the Mieruko-chan series announced that the manga will be getting an anime adaptation to release sometime this year. A teaser trailer and two teaser visuals were also revealed.

Yen Press describes the series’ story as:

A normal girl was living a normal life-until she wasn’t.

One day, she could see…everything. What’s a girl to do when hideous monsters appear no matter which way she turns?

And on top of that, nobody else can see them!

Obviously, there’s only one thing that makes sense-ignore them.

Higurashi: When They Cry – SOTSU Announced

This week, Funimation announced that Higurashi: When They Cry – GOU will receive a second part titled Higurashi: When They Cry – SOTSU in July. A preview trailer was also revealed.

Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro PV

The official website for the upcoming anime adaptation of Nanashi’s Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro (Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san) manga revealed its second promotional video and anime premiere of April 10.

Vertical releases the manga in English and describes the story as:

Nagatoro is a freshman in high school who loves teasing and torturing her older male classmate! What’s her motivation, and why does Senpai put up with her? Does Nagatoro just want to create misery for Senpai? Or maybe she secretly likes him?

Shadows House PV

The official website for the TV anime adaptation of so-ma-to’s Shadows House manga revealed a new promotional video for the anime featuring its ending theme song “Nai Nai” by ReoNa. The anime will premiere on April 10.

Anime News Network describes the manga’s story as:

The manga’s story is set in a Western-style mansion on a cliff and centers on the aristocratic, faceless Shadow family. They live together with lifelike doll attendants who serve as their faces. The story focuses on the daily lives of the house’s inhabitants and gradually reveals its mysteries.

 Gyokō no Nikuko-chan Additional Cast

The official website for the anime film adaptation of Kanako Nishi’s Gyokō no Nikuko-chan (Nikuko of the Fishing Harbor) novel revealed a new teaser trailer and visual. The site also announced that flutist and model Cocomi will play Kikuko, the protagonist Nikuko’s daughter in the film. The film is set to premiere on June 11.

Anime News Network describes the original novel’s story as:

The “human drama” novel centers on a mother named Nikuko and her daughter, Kikuko, who live on a boat. The novel follows their paths in life, and their growth.

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Season 2 PV

The official website for the anime adaptation of Satoru Yamaguchi and Nami Hidaka’s My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! light novels revealed a new promotional video for the anime’s upcoming second season alongside its new cast members, staff members, and theme song artists. A new visual was also revealed. The second season is set to premiere in July.

J-Novel Club publishes the novels in English and describes the story as:

After hitting her head particularly hard one day, Duke Claes’ daughter, Katarina, suddenly recalls all the memories of her past life: that of a teenage Japanese girl. Just before her untimely death, this girl recalls playing an otome game… that is exactly like the world she’s living in now!

She is now Katarina Claes, the antagonist of the otome game, who nastily hounded the protagonist until the end. Knowing all the possible outcomes of the game, she realizes that every single possible route ends with Katarina being murdered or exiled! Pompo: The Cinéphile Trailer

The official Twitter account for the anime film adaptation of Shogo Sugitani’s Pompo: The Cinéphile (Eiga Daisuki Pompo-san) manga revealed a full trailer for the upcoming film featuring its insert song, “Tatoeba” (“For Example”) by Kaf. The film was initially slated to premiere in 2020 but was delayed to March 19, 2021, due to “various circumstances.”

Anime News Network describes the film’s story as:

Pompo: The Cinéphile depicts the craft of movie-making and revolves around Joelle Davidovich “Pompo” Pomponette, a talented movie producer who looks like a girl.

Operating out of the movie capital “Nyallywood,” Pompo has been shooting one B-grade entertainment flick after another that anyone would enjoy. One day, Pompo’s “movie buff” assistant Gene spots a new script written by Pompo and is moved by its exquisite story. In a fit of passion, he proclaims, “I want to see this as a finished work in theaters as soon as possible!”

However, Pompo tells him, “So you shoot this film.” Thus, Gene takes on his first directing gig. Meanwhile, Natalie, an ordinary girl who just arrived in town with movie actress dreams, has been discovered by Pompo …

Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon Second Part Announced

The final episode of the Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon (Han’yo no Yasha Hime) anime adaptation revealed that the anime will receive a second season titled Ni no Sho (Part II). A new teaser visual featuring one of the main characters Towa Higurashi was also revealed.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Second Part Announced

It was announced in the eleventh episode of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, that the anime series will receive a second part. The release date has yet to be announced. The series will receive a total of 23 episodes.

Funimation describes the series as:

The story follows a 34-year-old man who is killed after trying to save someone from getting hit by a car. He soon finds himself reincarnated in a magical world as Rudeus Greyrat, except that he gets his whole life reset, starting as a baby.

With all of his knowledge from his previous life, and a new heaping helping of magical ability, Rudeus quickly becomes a formidable warrior ready for adventure. Oh, and he’s still a total pervert.
