Anime and Manga News This Week (04/12-04/18)

It’s a new week and a new set of anime and manga news to cover, so I’ll be listing the best updates and announcements we received throughout the week.

3rd Gundam: Reconguista in G Compilation Film Premiere Date

Earlier this week, during the “Gundam Topics 2021” event it was announced that the third compilation film for the Reconguista in G anime titled Gekijōban Gundam G no Reconguista III: Uchū kara no Isan (The Legacy of Space), will premiere on July 22. A new visual and promotional video were also revealed.

Right Stuf released the Gundam Reconguista in G anime series on Blu-ray Disc in North America in October 2016, and it describes the story as:

The new era begins!

The turbulent era known as the Universal Century has ended. Now, mankind looks towards prosperity and peace in the new era known as the Regild Century (R.C.). One of the most important resources in this era is the Capital Tower – a space elevator which towers over the land connecting Earth to space. Its purpose, to transport the Photon Batteries the Earth relies on for power. It is worshiped as a holy place.

Tasked with protecting the tower, one day on a practice mission, young Capital Guard cadet, Bellri Zenam is attacked by a high-performance G-Self Mobile Suit. Despite having never before encountered the G-Self, he feels a strange connection to it and its pilot, a space pirate called Aida Surugan.

Little does Bellri know that he is about to uncover truths which will shake the entire Regild Century.

Yasuke New Details

Earlier this week, Netflix released a new trailer and cast listing for the upcoming anime Yasuke. The anime is set to premiere on April 29.

Netflix describes the anime as:

In a war-torn feudal Japan filled with mechs and magic, the greatest ronin never known, Yasuke, struggles to maintain a peaceful existence after a past life of violence. But when a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo, Yasuke must take up his sword and transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords. The story of Yasuke, the first African samurai who actually served the legendary Oda Nobunaga, will be released to the world.

This Healer’s a Handful Anime Adaptation Announced

This week, Kadokawa announced that Tannen ni Hakkō’s Kono Healer, Mendokusai (This Healer’s a Handful) manga is getting an anime adaptation. Tannen ni Hakkō also drew an illustration to celebrate the announcement.

Anime News Network describes the series as:

The “isekai burnt-out adventurer comedy” centers on two adventurers: the hopeless swordsman Arvin, and the sarcastic dark-elf healer Karla, who seems to be more talented with ticking people off than healing.

Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight Film Premiere Date

This week, the official Twitter account of the Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight franchise revealed a new trailer and visual for its upcoming anime film. The film is set to premiere on May 21.

Sentai Filmworks licensed the Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight anime, and describes the story as:

After receiving a mysterious invitation to audition for a coveted spot with, Starlight, a popular musical revue troupe, star-struck contestants begin honing their talents and competing against each other for a chance of a lifetime. Among the hopefuls are childhood friends, Karen and Hikari, who once promised each other that they would take the stage together. With each contender working tirelessly hard to win, it’s the girls’ passionate dedication to their lifelong dream that’ll truly transform their performances as the curtains rise.

My Dress-Up Darling Anime Adaptation Announced

The official Twitter account for Shinichi Fukuda’s My Dress-Up Darling (Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru) announced that the manga is getting an anime adaptation.

Square Enix published the manga’s sixth volume in November 2020. Square Enix Manga & Books publishes the manga in English, and describes the story as:

Traumatized by a childhood incident with a friend who took exception to his love of traditional dolls, doll-artisan hopeful Wakana Gojō passes his days as a loner, finding solace in the home ec room at his high school. To Wakana, people like beautiful Marin Kitagawa, a trendy girl who’s always surrounded by a throng of friends, is practically an alien from another world. But when cheerful Marin–never one to be shy–spots Wakana sewing away one day after school, she barges in with the aim of roping her quiet classmate into her secret hobby: cosplay.

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! Anime Adaptation Announced

A new website and Twitter account were created to announce the anime adaptation of Wakame Konbu’s The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! (Jahysama ha Kujikenai!) manga set to premiere sometime this summer. Konbu also drew an illustration to celebrate the announcement.

Square Enix Manga & Books published the first manga volume in English on April 13 and describes the story as:

The Great Jahy, the Dark Realm’s second-in-command, cuts a frightening figure, feared and revered by all. But when a run-in with a magical girl results in the destruction of the precious mana crystal, the Dark Realm falls, transporting the newly tiny and powerless Jahy to the human world! Unfortunately, plotting the revival of the Dark Realm from a cramped, crumbling one-room apartment is no easy feat when you have rent to pay and a job to keep!

Kageki Shoujo!! New Details

The official website for the TV anime adaptation of Kumiko Saiki’s Kageki Shoujo!! revealed a new promotional video, key visual, cast listing, and theme song artists for the upcoming anime. The anime is set to premiere this July.

Seven Seas Entertainment published Kageki Shoujo!!’s manga in English and describes its story as:

Like the Takarazuka Revue, the young women who go to the arts academy Kouka Kageki High School play all the parts of musical theater, be they female or male. Narada Ai is a jaded former idol performing female roles—her roommate, playing male roles, is bright-eyed country girl Watanabe Sarasa. From the school to the stage to the rest of their lives, there is no challenge these young women can’t face with their passion for performance.

Arifureta Season 2 Announced

The official website for the anime adaptation of Ryo Shirakome’s Arifureta – From Commonplace to World’s Strongest (Arifureta Shokugyō de Sekai Saikyō) light novel series announced that the anime’s second season is set to premiere sometime in January 2022. A promotional video and key visual were also revealed.

The first season of Arifureta premiered in July 2019. Funimation streamed the series as it aired and describes the story as:

Hajime Nagumo and his high school class are suddenly summoned to a fantastical land as heroes. But while most of his classmates have powerful stats and abilities, Hajime does not. Underappreciated and unprepared, he tumbles into the depths of a monster-infested dungeon where voracity and sacrifice are his only options. To thrive in this savage world, he’ll have no choice but to welcome the abyss.

The Quintessential Quintuplets Sequel Movie Premiere Date

The official Twitter account for The Quintessential Quintuplets (Gotōbun no Hanayome) anime and ANN announced that the Eiga Gotōbun no Hanayome (The Quintessential Quintuplets the Movie) sequel will premiere sometime next year.

The anime’s second season premiered on January 7, and its final episode aired on March 25.

Kodansha Comics publishes the original manga digitally and in print, and describes the story as:

One day, a poor high school second-year named Futaro Uesugi comes across a private tutoring gig with good pay. But his pupils are his classmates!! And they’re quintuplets!! A-and they’re all gorgeous girls, but they’re also troublemakers who hate to study and are on the verge of flunking out! And his first task is simply gaining the sisters’ trust?! Every day is a party! The curtain is rising on the Nakano quintuplets’ quirky romantic comedy with five times the cute!!

The Faraway Paladin New Details

This week, ANN and a new website launched to announce the anime adaptation of Kanata Yanagino and Kususaga Rin’s The Faraway Paladin (Saihate no Paladin) light novel series. The anime is set to premiere this October.

J-Novel Club publishes the novels and manga adaptation in English, and describes the story as:

In a city of the dead, long since ruined and far from human civilization, lives a single human child. His name is Will, and he’s being raised by three undead: the hearty skeletal warrior, Blood; the graceful mummified priestess, Mary; and the crotchety spectral sorcerer, Gus. The three pour love into the boy, and teach him all they know. But one day, Will starts to wonder: “Who am I?”

Will must unravel the mysteries of this faraway dead man’s land, and unearth the secret pasts of the undead. He must learn the love and mercy of the good gods, and the bigotry and madness of the bad. And when he knows it all, the boy will take his first step on the path to becoming a Paladin.

How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom New Details

The official website for the TV anime adaptation of Dojyomaru’s How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom (Genjitsushugi Yūsha no Ōkoku Saikenki) light novel series and ANN revealed a new promotional video, key visual, and cast members. The anime is set to premiere this July.

J-Novel Club releases the novels digitally and describes the story as:

“O, Hero!” With that cliched line, Kazuya Souma found himself summoned to another world and his adventure–did not begin. After he presents his plan to strengthen the country economically and militarily, the king cedes the throne to him and Souma finds himself saddled with ruling the nation! Skeleton Knight in Another World

The official website and Twitter account for Ennki Hakari’s Skeleton Knight in Another World (Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechū or Skeleton Knight, going out to the parallel universe) light novel series is getting an anime adaptation.

Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the light novels and in English, and describes the story as:

One day, a gamer played video games until he fell asleep…and when he woke up, he found himself in the game world–as a skeleton! Equipped with the powerful weapons and armor of his avatar but stuck with its frightening skeletal appearance, Arc has to find a place for himself in this new, fantastical land. All his hopes for a quiet life are dashed when he crosses paths with a beautiful elven warrior, setting him on a journey full of conflict and adventure.
