Anime and Manga News This Week (04/26-05/02)

It’s a new week and a new set of anime and manga news to cover, so I’ll be listing the best updates and announcements we received throughout the week.

Yashahime: Princess Half–Demon Season 2 Premiere Date

The official Twitter account for Yashahime: Princess Half–Demon announced that the anime’s second season will premiere this fall. The second season was announced to be in production at the end of the first season in March.

Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution Film Delayed

Earlier this week, it was announced that the upcoming Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution film has been delayed from its initial early Summer release date to Fall 2021 due to the effects of COVID-19. An updated trailer for the film was also revealed.

Free! The Final Stroke Details Revealed

This week, the official Free! Twitter account revealed that its recently announced anime film is titled Free! The Final Stroke and will be a two-part film project. The first part will premiere on September 17, and the second part will premiere on April 22, 2022. A trailer for the film was also live-streamed for the eighth anniversary of the franchise.

Crunchyroll streamed the anime’s first season as it aired and describes the story as:

Nanase Haruka loved to be in the water – loved swimming. In elementary school, Nanase Haruka, Tachibana Makoto, Matsuoka Rin, and Hazuki Nagisa attended the same swimming class together. Time passed, and as Haruka was living an uneventful high school life, he suddenly encountered Rin again. Rin challenged Haruka to a race and showed him how much stronger he had become. Soon enough, Makoto and Nagisa also rejoined the group, and along with a new classmate, Ryugazaki Rei, they established the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club.

My Senpai Is Annoying Anime Premiere Date

The official website and Twitter account for the upcoming anime adaptation of Shiro Manta’s My Senpai Is Annoying (Senpai ga Uzai Kōhai no Hanashi) web manga revealed a new visual, October premiere, cast members, and additional staff.

The My Senpai Is Annoying web manga launched in 2017 on the pixiv Comic website. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the full-colored version in English and describes the story as:

Igarashi is a hardworking young office lady. Takeda, the senpai above her at work, annoys her constantly–and yet she finds herself growing closer to him. Every day is filled with comic mishaps and romantic moments as Igarashi tries to balance work, life, and love. This full-color manga–which started its life as a webcomic–is sure to charm audiences of workplace comedies like Aggretsuko and The Office!

 

Blue Period Premiere Date

The official website for Blue Period announced the anime series release is scheduled for October 2021. The first anime trailer, key visual, and cast were also revealed.

The Blue Period manga launched in Kodansha’s Afternoon magazine in June 2017. Kodansha publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:

Yatora is the perfect high school student, with good grades and lots of friends. It’s an effortless performance, and, ultimately…a dull one. But he wanders into the art room one day, and a lone painting captures his eye, awakening him to a kind of beauty he never knew. Compelled and consumed, he dives in headfirst — and he’s about to learn how savage and unforgiving art can be!

Sonny Boy Anime Announced

A new sci-fi survival original TV anime from One-Punch Man director Shingo Natsume and studio Madhouse titled Sonny Boy, has been announced and is set to premiere sometime this year. The anime’s concept visual and promotional video was also revealed.

Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy- Premiere Date

The official website for the anime adaptation of Kei Azumi’s light novel series Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy- (Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Dōchū) revealed its first promotional video, visual, additional cast, and July premiere date.

Nippon TV will air Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy- in Japan and will distribute the anime worldwide outside of Asia through Crunchyroll. The network describes the anime’s story as:

Makoto Misumi is just an ordinary high school student living a regular life, but all of a sudden gets summoned to the other world to become a “hero.” The goddess of the other world, however, insults him for being different and strips his “hero” title, before casting him off to the wilderness at the edge of the world. As he wanders the wilderness, Makoto encounters dragons, spiders, orcs, dwarves, and all sorts of non-human tribes. Because Makoto comes from a different world, he is able to unleash unimaginable magical powers and combat skills. But just how will he handle his encounters with various species and survive in his new environment. In this fantasy, Makoto tries to transform the other world into a better place despite the humans and gods having turned their backs on him.

Netflix To Stream Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie Part 1 & Part 2 Globally

Earlier this week, Netflix announced that it will stream Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie’ Part 1 & Part 2 globally from June 3, 2021.

Netflix describes the films as:

The upcoming adventures are set in April, when the cherry blossoms are in bloom and Tokyo is in a festive mood as it celebrates the largest Total Solar Eclipse of the century. As the new moon obscures the sun and gradually dims its light, Usagi and Chibi-Usa encounter Pegasus, who is in search of the chosen Maiden who can break the seal of the Golden Crystal. Meanwhile, a mysterious troupe called the Dead Moon Circus appears in town who’s nefarious plan is to scatter the nightmare incarnations known as Lemures, seize the ‘Legendary Silver Crystal,’ rule over the moon and the earth, and eventually dominate the entire universe…

Castlevania Season 4 Release Date

This week, Netflix announced Castlevania Season 4 will premiere on May 13, and will include 10 episodes. A new trailer was also revealed.

Netflix describes Castlevania Season 4 as:

Dracula’s influence looms large as Belmont and Sypha investigate plans to resurrect the notorious vampire. Alucard struggles to embrace his humanity

TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You OVA Visual

This week, Warner Bros. Japan revealed a new key visual for TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You OVA.

The Dawn of the Witch Anime Adaptation

Kakeru Kobashiri, author of The Dawn of the Witch (Mahōtsukai Reimeiki) announced that the light novel is receiving an anime adaptation. Further details about the anime are yet to be revealed.

Anime News Network describes the series as:

The light novel series is set in the same fantasy world as Kobashiri’s (Grimoire of Zero) Zero Kara Hajimeru Mahō no Sho light novel series, now at peace after having endured a conflict between the church and witches for 500 years. However, embers of war still burn in some regions of the world. The story centers on Savil, a hopeless student at the Kingdom of Wenias’ College of Magic. Savil has somehow lost all memory of his time before attending the college. The school’s headmaster Albus sends him for special training to the southern part of the continent, where persecution against witches runs strong.

Cherry and Virgin Film Announced

A new film from Director Masanao Kawajiri titled Cherry and Virgin was revealed this week and will debut in 2022. The film’s cast includes Takashi Ōkado and Yaeko Kiyose. Toei Video is producing and distributing the film.

Anime News Network describes the film’s story as:

The film centers on Ryō and Ami. Ryō is a 32-year-old erotic manga artist who is not used to being around women. Ami is a 28-year-old fujōshi who does not have a good impression of men. The story follows their relationship after they meet by coincidence. The film will feature rotoscoping, as well as manga and live-action elements.

ASMR Themed Anime Can I Make Your Ears Happy in 180 Seconds? Announced

An original ASMR themed anime titled 180-Byō de Kimi no Mimi o Shiwase ni Dekiru ka? (Can I Make Your Ears Happy in 180 Seconds?) has been announced and will premiere in October.

Anime News Network describes the anime as:

ASMR or Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response is the nerve-tingling or relaxing sensation one gets in response to stimuli such as certain sounds or sights. As the title indicates, the short anime will let viewers experience various forms of ASMR in 180 seconds. In the story, the heroine challenges her classmates to share in her hobby of recording ASMR works.

The Dungeon of Black Company New PV

The official website for the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Yōhei Yasumura’s The Dungeon of Black Company (Meikyū Black Company) manga revealed its second promotional video and additional cast members.

Seven Seas Entertainment is publishing The Dungeon of Black Company’s manga in English and describes its story as:

Kinji, who lacks any kind of work ethic, is a layabout in his modern life. One day, he finds himself transported to another world–but not in a grand fantasy of a hero welcomed with open arms. He’s immediately shoved into a terrible job! Now enslaved by an evil mining company in a fantasy world, Kinji’s about to really learn the meaning of hard work!

Muv-Luv Alternative Anime New Trailer

A new trailer was revealed for the anime adaptation of Muv-Luv Alternative alongside its staff and cast listing. The anime is set to premiere in October.

Muv-Luv Alternative is based on a visual novel which first released in Japan in 2006. ANN describes the series as:

The story is about humans who wage a long battle against the extraterrestrial species BETA, with humanoid weapons known as Tactical Surface Fighters.
