Anime and Manga News This Week (05/10-05/16)

It’s a new week and a new set of anime and manga news to cover, so I’ll be listing the best updates and announcements we received throughout the week.

Komi Can’t Communicate Anime Announced

Earlier this week, the official Twitter account for Komi Can’t Communicate announced that the manga will finally receive an anime adaptation in October 2021.

VIZ Media publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:

Timid Tadano is a total wallflower, and that’s just the way he likes it. But all that changes when he finds himself alone in a classroom on the first day of high school with the legendary Komi. He quickly realizes she isn’t aloof—she’s just super awkward. Now he’s made it his mission to help her on her quest to make 100 friends!

Eden Trailer

Earlier this week, Netflix revealed a new trailer for its upcoming four-episode original anime Eden, as well as new cast members and a new key visual for the anime. The new cast members include Tarusuke Shingaki as S566, Yūki Kuwahara as Zurich and Yuko Kaida as Geneve.

The previously announced cast includes Marika Kōno as Sara, Kentaro Ito as E92, Kyoko Hikami as A37, and Kōichi Yamadera as Zero.

Netflix describes the anime as:

The upcoming sci-fi fantasy series Eden is set thousands of years in the future, where a city known as “Eden 3” is inhabited solely by robots whose former masters vanished a long time ago. On a routine assignment, two farming robots accidentally awaken a human baby girl from stasis questioning all they were taught to believe — that humans were nothing more than a forbidden ancient myth. Together, the two robots secretly raise the child in a safe haven outside Eden.

The Duke of Death and His Maid Premiere Date

The official website for the upcoming anime adaptation of The Duke of Death and His Maid revealed its July 4 premiere date, new PV, key visual, additional cast and staff.

Scarlet Nexus Anime Premiere Date

The official website for the TV anime adaptation of Bandai Namco Entertainment’s upcoming Scarlet Nexus RPG revealed a new promotional video, additional staff and cast, and July 1 premiere date for the anime earlier this week.

Funimation describes the anime’s story as:

Solar calendar year 2020: grotesque organisms called Others have begun eating people. To take down this new enemy, the Other Suppression Force is formed. Saved by this elite team as a child, psychokinetic Yuito withstands the training to enlist. On the other hand, prodigy Kasane was scouted for her abilities. But Kasane’s dreams tell her strange things, dragging the two into an unavoidable fate.

The Scarlet Nexus game will launch on June 25 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

I’m Standing on a Million Lives Season 2 Premiere Date

Earlier this week, the official Twitter account for the anime adaptation of I’m Standing on a Million Lives Season 2 revealed a new trailer and July 2 premiere date for the anime. Additionally, the trailer also featured the anime’s ending theme song “Subversive” performed by Kanako Takatsuki.

Crunchyroll streamed the first season as it aired and describes its story as:

Aloof and logical middle school third-year Yusuke Yotsuya is transported to a game-like alternate world. He becomes a third player and takes on a dangerous quest with his classmates Iu Shindo and Kusue Hakozaki, who were transported there earlier. The cold Yusuke eschews emotionalism and examines all elements with detachment, sometimes even toying with the lives of his companions. Can he protect his party from attacking monsters, difficult incidents, and powerful scheming enemies and win the game?

Kakushigoto Film Premiere Date and Trailer

The official website for the anime adaptation of Kōji Kumeta’s Kakushigoto manga revealed a full trailer, a new key visual, and the theme song artists for the upcoming theatrical compilation film Kakushigoto: Himegoto wa Nan Desu ka (What is a Secret?). The film is set to premiere on July 9.

Anime News Network describes the Kakushigoto series as:

The comedy story centers on Kakushi Gotō, who doesn’t want his daughter, Hime Gotō, to know that he is a manga creator. The manga’s comedy focuses on the daily life of a family with a manga artist. In addition to being a word play on the father’s name, the ambiguous title can mean “Hidden Things,” but can also be read as “Drawing Job.”

Sonny Boy Cast and Premiere Date

This week, the official website for the upcoming original science-fiction survival TV anime Sonny Boy revealed the anime’s cast and July 15 premiere.

The anime’s cast includes Aoi Ichikawa as Nagara, Saori Ōnishi as Nozomi, Aoi Yūki as Mizuho, and Chiaki Kobayashi as Asakaze.

 

Aquatope of White Sand Premiere Date and Additional Cast

Earlier this week, the official website for P.A. Works’ original anime series Aquatope of White Sand (Shiroi Suna no Aquatope) the additional cast, the second key visual, and the July 8 premiere date for the upcoming anime.

The new cast members include Shimba Tsuchiya as Kai Nakamura, Yōhei Azakami as Kūya Yakamashi, and Hiroshi Yanaka as Kukuru’s grandfather. Previously announced cast members include Miku Itō as Kukuru Misakino, Rikako Aida as Fuuka Miyazawa, Azumi Waki as Tsukimi Teruya and Lynn as Karin Kudaka.

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! Details

The official website for the television anime of Wakame Konbu’s The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! manga revealed the anime’s cast, staff, new visual, July 31 premiere date, and two-cour format earlier this week.

Square Enix Manga & Books will publish the first manga volume in English on July 13, and describes the story as:

The Great Jahy, the Dark Realm’s second-in-command, cuts a frightening figure, feared and revered by all. But when a run-in with a magical girl results in the destruction of the precious mana crystal, the Dark Realm falls, transporting the newly tiny and powerless Jahy to the human world! Unfortunately, plotting the revival of the Dark Realm from a cramped, crumbling one-room apartment is no easy feat when you have rent to pay and a job to keep!

Fate/Grand Order Final Singularity Key Visual and Trailer

This week, Aniplex revealed a new key visual and full trailer for the upcoming Fate/Grand Order Final Singularity – Grand Temple of Time: Solomon (Fate/Grand Order -Kyūshoku Tokuiten Kani Jikan Shinden Solomon-) anime film. The trailer reveals the anime’s main staff, cast, and July 30 premiere date (which is also the sixth anniversary of the original game).

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Premiere Date

This week, the official website for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime announced a new cast member, the new theme songs’ artists, and July 6 premiere date for the anime’s second anime season (2nd cour).

Akira Ishida will play Guy Crimson, MindaRyn will perform the season’s second opening theme song “Like Flames”, while Takuma Terashima is performing the second season’s second ending theme song “Reincarnate.”
