It’s a new week and a new set of anime and manga news to cover, so I’ll be listing the best updates and announcements we received throughout the week.
Life Lessons with Uramichi-Oniisan PV and Premiere Date
Earlier this week, the official website and Twitter account for the TV anime adaptation of Gaku Kuze’s Life Lessons with Uramichi-Oniisan (Uramichi Oniisan) manga revealed a new promotional video and July 5 premiere date for the anime.
Kodansha publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:
Uramichi is a 31-year old children’s TV host who leads physical exercises and teaches life lessons colored by one main theme: adulthood sucks. Alongside mascots played by a couple of bushy-tailed millennials, and a singing duo whose music embodies the notion of being kicked while you’re down, Uramichi wades through the misery of working life, one sardonic comment at a time…

The Honor Student at Magic High School Premiere Date
Earlier this week, the official Twitter account for the anime adaptation of Tsutomu Sato and Yu Mori’s The Honor Student at Magic High School manga announced that the anime will premiere on July 3.
Yen Press publishes the manga in English, and describes it as:
A century has passed since magic–true magic, the stuff of legends–has returned to the world. It is spring, the season of new beginnings, and a new class of students is about to begin their studies at the First National Magic University Affiliated High School, nickname: First High.

Saiki’s Kageki Shoujo!! New Cast and Premiere Date
The official website for the anime adaptation of Kumiko Saiki’s Kageki Shoujo!! manga revealed a new PV, a character trailer for Sarasa Watanabe, additional cast members, and July 3 premiere date for the anime.
Seven Seas Entertainment published Kageki Shoujo!!’s manga in English and describes its story as:
Like the Takarazuka Revue, the young women who go to the arts academy Kouka Kageki High School play all the parts of musical theater, be they female or male. Narada Ai is a jaded former idol performing female roles—her roommate, playing male roles, is bright-eyed country girl Watanabe Sarasa. From the school to the stage to the rest of their lives, there is no challenge these young women can’t face with their passion for performance.
Musashino Animation will have to reach new heights with their passion for anime as Aoi and the team undertake the production of their latest film. Are they able to rely on their love for filmmaking, friends, and food alone? 🍩

SHIROBAKO The Movie North America Release
This week, Eleven Arts announced that it will be releasing SHIROBAKO The Movie, which is a sequel to the anime series in North American theaters from August 10. The film originally premiered in Japan in February 29, 2020.
ELEVEN ARTS describes the series as:
Four years after the events of SHIROBAKO the series, Musashino Animation has gone through unprecedented changes and things are looking bleak for the studio. One day, Aoi Miyamori is offered a role managing a new theatrical animation project. With only a few months left before the deadline, can MusAni complete the project in its current state? It’s up to Aoi to work alongside both familiar faces and new to finish the project in time!
Remake our Life! PV and Premiere Date
Earlier this week, the official website for the TV anime adaptation of Nachi Kio’s Remake our Life! (Boku-tachi no Remake) light novel series revealed a new promotional video and July 3 premiere date for the anime.
Anime News Network describes Remake our Life! as:
The story centers on the unsuccessful game director Kyōya Hashiba. His company goes bankrupt, and he ends up returning to his parents’ home. He lies in bed thinking about the successful creators of his generation. When he opens his eyes, Kyōya finds that he has gone back in time 10 years to when he started college. He has an opportunity to remake his life, starting as an arts college student. He now lives in a four-person coed share house. Kyōya has the chance to spend his formative years with creators he knows will be famous in the future, but things might not turn out as he expected.
The Case Study of Vanitas Visual, Cast, Premiere Date
During an advance screening for BONES’ anime adaptation of Jun Mochizuki’s The Case Study of Vanitas (Vanitas no Carte) manga, the additional cast, July 2 premiere, and a new visual were revealed via ANN for the anime.
Yen Press publishes the manga in English describes the first volume as:
Rumors revolving around The Book of Vanitas, a clockwork grimoire of dubious reputation, draw Noé, a young vampire in search of a friend’s salvation, to Paris. What awaits him in the City of Flowers, however, is not long hours treading the pavement or rifling through dusty bookshops in search of the tome. The Detective Is Already Dead PV and Premiere Date
This week, the official website for the TV anime of Nigojū and Umibōzu’s The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mō, Shindeiru.) light novel series revealed the anime’s second promotional video and July 4 one-hour premiere special.
Anime News Network describes the original novels as:
The novels center around Kimihiko Kimizuka, a third-year high school student and former assistant of a detective named Siesta. He made Siesta’s acquaintance three years ago, 10,000 meters above the ground in a hijacked plane. The two went on one death-defying adventure after another for three years that eventually ended with Siesta’s untimely death. Left alone, Kimihiko tries his best to reintegrate himself back into a normal life.
How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom PV and Premiere Date
The official website for the TV anime adaptation of Dojyomaru’s How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom (Genjitsushugi Yūsha no Ōkoku Saikenki) light novel series revealed a full promotional video, new cast members, and July 3 premiere date for the anime. The video also previews the anime’s opening theme song “Hello Horizon” by Inori Minase.
J-Novel Club releases the novels digitally and describes the story as:
“O, Hero!” With that cliched line, Kazuya Souma found himself summoned to another world and his adventure–did not begin. RE-MAIN Additional Cast and Theme Song Artists
The official website for the original TV anime RE-MAIN revealed additional cast members and the theme song artists for the anime. The anime will premiere on July 3.
Sonny Boy Contributing Artists
The official Twitter account for director Shingo Natsume and studio Madhouse’s original anime Sonny Boy revealed that director Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop) is serving as the anime’s musical advisor, as well as the several musicians that will be contributing to the anime’s soundtrack alongside a new teaser visual.
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S PV and Premiere Date
The official website for Kyoto Animation’s Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S revealed via ANN a new promotional video, visual, and July 7 premiere date for the anime.
Crunchyroll streamed the first season of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid and describes the story as:
Miss Kobayashi is your average office worker who lives a boring life, alone in her small apartment–until she saves the life of a female dragon in distress. The dragon, named Tohru, has the ability to magically transform into an adorable human girl (albeit with horns and a long tail!), who will do anything to pay off her debt of gratitude, whether Miss Kobayashi likes it or not. With a very persistent and amorous dragon as a roommate, nothing comes easy, and Miss Kobayashi’s normal life is about to go off the deep end!
Mr. Osomatsu Anime Projects
During the “Fes Matsu-san ’21” event, it was announced that the Mr. Osomatsu anime franchise will receive two new anime projects. These works will have limited screenings in theaters in Japan in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
VIZ describes the anime’s first season as:
In the hardworking country of Japan, the sextuplet Matsuno brothers from the legendary comedy manga Osomatsu-kun are now all grown up but just can’t be bothered to do anything productive with their lives. Allergic to work, inept with girls, and completely oblivious to what society thinks of them, the six twenty-somethings prefer to spend their days lying around their parents’ house, where Mom makes the food, Dad makes the money, and the pressures of modern living never intrude. After all, life is just too short to waste your time not wasting your time.
By the Grace of the Gods Season 2 Announced
This week, the official website for the anime adaptation of Roy and Ririnra’s By the Grace of the Gods (Kami-tachi ni Hirowareta Otoko) light novel series announced that the anime will receive second season. The second season will be set three years after the end of the first season. Character designer Kaho Deguchi drew a special illustration to celebrate the announcement.
J-Novel Club is publishing the novels digitally in English, and describes the story as:
Under the protection of the gods, a relaxed life with slimes in another world begins!
One day, the life of middle-aged Japanese businessman Ryoma Takebayashi came to a rather sudden and disappointing end. Ryoma had never had a blessed life, but after his death, three great gods sought his cooperation and reincarnated him as a child in another world with swords and magic!

The Ancient Magus OAD Trailer
The official website for the Mahō Tsukai no Yome: Nishi no Shōnen to Seiran no Kishi (The Ancient Magus’ Bride: The Boy From the West and the Knight of the Mountain Haze) original anime disc based on Kore Yamazaki’s The Ancient Magus’ Bride (Mahō Tsukai no Yome) manga, revealed a new trailer for the first volume. The trailer also reveals two new cast members for the anime.
ANN describes the OAD’s story as:
The story begins with Spriggan visiting Chise and Elias’ home, bringing news of a strange new Wild Hunt. Another part of the story will focus on Gabriel, a boy who has tired of parting with friends and living in an unfamiliar land and circumstances. He will part the veil that hides him from the world of magic.
