Anime and Manga News This Week (07/12-07/18)

It’s a new week and a new set of anime and manga news to cover, so I’ll be listing the best updates and announcements we received throughout the week.

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop PV

Earlier this week, the official website for Flying Dog’s original anime film Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop (Cider no Yō ni Kotoba ga Wakiagaru), via ANN revealed a second promotional video previewing its insert song “Yamazakura” by Taeko Onuki. The film will premiere on July 22 and will release on Netflix on the same day.

Paru Itagaki Launches New Manga Sanda

In this year’s 33rd issue of Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine, it was announced that Paru Itagaki (creator of Beastars) is launching a new manga titled Sanda, to appear in the magazine’s next issue on July 21 with 48 pages.

DEEMO Memorial Keys PV

Earlier this week, Rayark Inc. revealed a second promotional video with English subtitles for the upcoming DEEMO Memorial Keys (Deemo: Sakura no Oto – Anata no Kanadeta Oto ga, Ima mo Hibiku) anime film.

Princess Principal: Crown Handler Trailer

This week, the official website for the upcoming second film of the Princess Principal: Crown Handler sequel film series via ANN revealed a new trailer and key visual. It was also announced that the film will premiere in 46 theaters in Japan on September 23.

Sentai Filmworks licensed the film series and describes the story as:

At the end of the 19th century, London, the Kingdom of Albion has been split into East and West sides by a giant wall. Five girls attend Queen’s Mayfaire, a conventional and prestigious school. Under the guise of regular high school girls, they act as spies undercover. Disguise, reconnaissance, infiltration, car chases… Each girl uses their own set of special skills to dart around the world of shadow.

Alternate World Pharmacy Anime Announced

A new website and Twitter account launched to announce that Liz Takayama’s Alternate World Pharmacy (Isekai Yakkyoku) light novel series is receiving an anime adaptation. A key visual was also revealed. Additionally, novel illustrator keepout and manga artist Sei Takano drew illustrations to celebrate the news.

Anime News Network describes the story as:

The story centers around a young pharmacologist who was so focused on his research that he died from overwork. He was transported to an alternate world and reincarnated as Pharma, the scion in a noble lineage of court healers. In this world where erroneous remedies and cures are rampant, he takes on all kinds of ailments to save lives, thanks to his inside knowledge of modern pharmacology from his past life.

Summer Ghost gets New Trailer

This week, a new trailer was revealed for Summer Ghost, an upcoming anime short by new director loundraw. The trailer reveals the anime’s lead voice, additional staff, and November 12 premiere date.

Anime News Network describes the anime’s story as:

The story of the short developed from a single illustration that loundraw had drawn. Tomoya, Aoi, and Ryō are high school students who met online. An urban legend speaks of a “summer ghost,” a spirit girl who appears when fireworks are set off.

Tomoya cannot live the life he envisioned for himself. Aoi cannot find her place in the world. Ryō has his once shining future suddenly pulled away. Each has their own reason for needing to meet the summer ghost. On a summer night when life and death cross paths, where will each of their emotions take them?

Jujutsu Kaisen Manga Resumes

This week, the official Twitter account for Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced that Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen manga will resume from its Hiatus due to the author’s health in this year’s 35th issue, to ship on August 2.

Viz Media publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:

In a world where demons feed on unsuspecting humans, fragments of the legendary and feared demon Ryoma Sukuna were lost and scattered about. Should any demon consume Sukuna’s body parts, the power they gain could destroy the world as we know it. Fortunately, there exists a mysterious school of Jujutsu Sorcerers who exist to protect the precarious existence of the living from the supernatural!

Yuji Itadori is high schooler who spends his days visiting his bedridden grandfather. Although he looks like your average teenager, his immense physical strength is something to behold! Every sports club wants him to join, but Itadori would rather hang out with the school outcasts in the Occult Club. JoJolion Manga Ending

Earlier this week, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure creator Hirohiko Araki announced on Twitter that the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 8 (JoJolion) manga will end in this year’s September issue of Shueisha’s Ultra Jump magazine, which is set to ship on August 19. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 8 (JoJolion) debuted in Ultra Jump in May 2011. Its 26th volume shipped on May 19.

The Executioner and Her Way of Life Visual and Premiere Date

This week, the official website for the TV anime of Mato Satō and Nilitsu’s The Executioner and Her Way of Life (Shokei Shōjo no Virgin Road) light novel series revealed the anime’s new teaser visual, main staff, character designs, and 2022 premiere.

Mieruko-chan Anime Gets New Trailer, Visual, Staff

This week, Kadokawa revealed via ANN the full English subtitled trailer, second teaser visual, voice cast, additional staff members, and October premiere date for the upcoming anime adaptation of Tomoki Izumi’s Mieruko-chan. The video also previews the anime’s opening theme song.

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! OVA Announced

During a special event for the anime adaptation of Satoru Yamaguchi and Nami Hidaka’s My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! (Otome Game no Hametsu Flag Shika Nai Akuyaku Reijō ni Tensei Shiteshimatta…) light novel series, it was announced that the manga adaptation’s seventh volume will be bundled with a new OVA in its special edition on September 30.

J-Novel Club publishes the light novels digitally in English and describes the story as:

After hitting her head particularly hard one day, Duke Claes’ daughter, Katarina, suddenly recalls all the memories of her past life: that of a teenage Japanese girl. Just before her untimely death, this girl recalls playing an otome game… that is exactly like the world she’s living in now!

She is now Katarina Claes, the antagonist of the otome game, who nastily hounded the protagonist until the end. Knowing all the possible outcomes of the game, she realizes that every single possible route ends with Katarina being murdered or exiled! New Konosuba Anime Announced

Today, the live-streamed “KONOSUBA Channel from Isekai Museum” special announced via ANN that production KonoSuba – God’s blessing on this wonderful world!! will receive an anime sequel. Additional details will be revealed at a later date.
