Another week has past and a set of anime and manga news along with it, so I’ll be listing the best updates and announcements we received throughout last week.
Free! The Final Stroke Gets New Trailer and Staff
The official website for the anime adaptation of the two-part Free! The Final Stroke film revealed a new trailer, key visual and additional staff. The film’s first part will premiere on September 17, while the second part will premiere on April 22, 2022.
Crunchyroll streamed the anime’s first season as it aired and describes the story as:
Nanase Haruka loved to be in the water – loved swimming. In elementary school, Nanase Haruka, Tachibana Makoto, Matsuoka Rin, and Hazuki Nagisa attended the same swimming class together. Time passed, and as Haruka was living an uneventful high school life, he suddenly encountered Rin again. Rin challenged Haruka to a race and showed him how much stronger he had become. Soon enough, Makoto and Nagisa also rejoined the group, and along with a new classmate, Ryugazaki Rei, they established the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club.
INU-OH Anime Film Trailer & Premiere Date
The official website for Masaaki Yuasa’s upcoming anime film adaptation of Hideo Furukawa’s Heike Monogatari: INU-OH no Maki (Tales of the Heike: INU-OH) novel via ANN revealed a new trailer, additional staff, and an early 2022 primere window.
GKIDS licensed the film and describes the story as:
INU-OH is born with unique physical characteristics, and the horrified adults cover every inch of his body with garments, including a mask on his face. One day, he meets a boy named Tomona, a blind biwa player, and as Tomona plays a delicate song of tangled fate, INU-OH discovers an incredible ability to dance.
INU-OH and Tomona become business partners and inseparable friends, using their creative gifts to survive on the margins of society, as song after song gain them notoriety and propel them to stardom. Through the songs, INU-OH mesmerizes his audiences on stage, and gradually begins to transform into someone of unequaled beauty. But why is Tomona blind? Why was INU-OH born with unique characteristics? It is a story about the friendship of INU-OH and Tomona, who dance and sing to get to the truth and break each other’s curse.
Restaurant to Another World Gets New PV, Visual, Additional Staff
The official Twitter for the TV anime adaptation of Junpei Inuzuka and Katsumi Enami’s Restaurant to Another World (Isekai Shokudō) light novel series revealed a new promotional video, visual, and additional staff for the anime’s upcoming second season. The anime will premiere in October.
Seven Seas publishes the light novel series in English and describes the story as:
“Western Cuisine Nekoya” seems like a typical restaurant on the outside, but it hides an amazing secret: on Saturdays, portals to another world appear that allow all manner of unearthly creatures to sit down for a nice meal. Elves, dragons, or anyone else who wants to sample our world’s cuisine is welcome to partake before returning to their world, sated and ready for their next quest. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Gets New Teaser Trailer
The official website and Twitter account for the upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film revealed a new teaser trailer and cast member. The film is set to premiere on December 24.
Crunchyroll describes the series as:
Hardship, regret, shame: the negative feelings that humans feel become Curses that lurk in our everyday lives. The Curses run rampant throughout the world, capable of leading people to terrible misfortune and even death. What’s more, the Curses can only be exorcised by another Curse.
Itadori Yuji is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a friend who has been attacked by Curses, he eats the finger of the Double-Faced Specter, taking the Curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with the Double-Faced Specter. ‘Deji’ Meets Girl Original Anime Announced
A new website launched to announce that an original short-form anime titled ‘Deji’ Meets Girl will premiere sometime in October. A promotional video and key visual for the anime was also revealed. The anime will have 90-second weekly episodes.
New Game! Manga Ends in August
Last week, the official Twitter account for Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara magazine announced that Shōtarō Tokunō’s New Game! manga will end in the October issue of Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Charat magazine on August 27. The manga’s 13th and final volume will release on September 27.
Seven Seas licenses the manga in English and describes the story as:
Aoba Suzukaze may look like a middle schooler, but she’s actually a character designer fresh out of high school. Not only is she working for the company that put out one of her favorite games, she also gets to spend her days modeling and creating characters. Follow her adorable shenanigans in this 4-panel slice of life as she learns the ropes of the industry and gets to know her co-workers.
Jagaaan Ends This Fall
The 13th volume of Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Kensuke Nishida’s Jagaaan manga revealed that the series would end this fall with its 14th volume.
The manga launched the manga in Big Comic Spirits in February 2017, and Shogakukan published the manga’s 11th volume on September 30.
ANN describes the story as:
The manga centers on Shintarō Jagasaki, a police officer who is bored with his job and domestic life, currently living with a girlfriend, and living a life headed toward marriage and settling down with a family. His life takes an immediate turn for the interesting when a monster appears on a train, and he suddenly gains the power to shoot with his right hand.
Aharen Is Indecipherable Anime Adaptation Announced
The official Twitter account for Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ service announced that a TV anime adaptation of Asato Mizu’s Aharen-san wa Hakarenai (Aharen Is Indecipherable) manga series is currently in production and will premiere on April 2022.
ANN describes the story as:
The teen romantic comedy follows the “indecipherable” daily life of short, quiet Reina Aharen and Raidō who sits next to her in class. Aharen is not so good at gauging the distance between people (or personal boundaries), and Raidō initially sensed some distance between the two of them. Then one day, when Raidō picked up the eraser that Aharen had dropped, the distance between them suddenly became uncomfortably close.
From “way too distant” to “way too close” … Aharen is simply unpredictable.
New Digimon Anime Series and Film Announced
During the “DigiFes 2021” event on Sunday, it was announced that the Digimon franchise will receive a new TV anime titled Digimon Ghost Game, and a new anime film.
Police in a Pod Anime Adaptation Announced
Kadokawa announced via ANN Miko Yasu’s Police in a Pod (Hakozume: Kōban Joshi no Gyakushū) manga is receiving a TV anime adaptation set to premiere next year. A trailer and key visual was also revealed. Additionally, Yasu drew an illustration to celebrate the news.
Amazon describes the manga as:
Female police officer Kawai had enough of a career she wasn’t even that into and was about to hand in her registration, when the unthinkable happened — she met the new, female director of her station! And after spending a little time with this gorgeous role model, Kawai realizes that maybe she isn’t quite done being an officer after all.
New Bleach Chapter Announced
In this year’s 35th issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, it was revealed that a new 73-page chapter of Tite Kubo’s Bleach manga will release in the magazine’s combined 36th and 37th issue on August 10. The new chapter will have a color page, and will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the manga’s launch.
