Anime and Manga News This Week (08/23-08/29)

Another week has past and a set of anime and manga news along with it, so I’ll be listing the best updates and announcements we received throughout the week.

 

Slow Loop Anime Gets New PV

The official website for the anime adaptation of Maiko Uchino’s Slow Loop manga revealed a promotional video, new visual, main cast, and additional staff for the anime. The anime is set to premiere in January 2022.

Anime News Network describes the manga’s story as:

The Slow Loop manga centers on Hiyori, a girl who enjoys fly fishing by the beach, an activity passed down to her by her late father. On one typical day at the beach, she happens to meet Koharu, who happens to be her new stepsister from her mother’s new marriage.

The official YouTube channel for The IDOLM@STER franchise revealed a new concept movie for the franchise from CloverWorks and Studio Khara’s. The video features the image song “Voyager.”

The official website for the upcoming anime film adaptation of Nahoko Uehashi’s Shika no Ō: Yuna to Yakusoku no Tabi (The Deer King: The Promised Journey With Yuna) light novel series, via ANN announced that the film has been delayed due to COVID-19. A new premiere date is yet to be announced. The film was originally slated to premiere on September 10.

 

Fitness Boxing Anime Adaptation

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Nintendo Switch game Fitness Boxing is getting an anime adaptation titled Kimi to Fit Boxing (You and Fitness Boxing) to premiere on October 1.

Restaurant to Another World PV, Visual, Premiere Date Revealed

The official website for the anime adaptation of Junpei Inuzuka and Katsumi Enami’s Restaurant to Another World (Isekai Shokudō) light novel series revealed a new promotional video, visual, and October 1 premiere for the anime’s upcoming second season. The promotional video previews the opening and ending theme songs.

Kiyono Yasuno is performing the opening theme song “Onnaji Kimochi” while Nao Tōyama is performing the ending theme song “Samenai Mahō” (Warmed-Over Magic).

She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man Anime Gets New Trailer, Reveals January 2022 Premiere Date

Funimation revealed a new English-subtitled teaser trailer and January 2022 premiere date for the anime adaptation of Hirotsugu Ryusen’s She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man (Kenja no Deshi o Nanoru Kenja) light novel series. The anime was initially scheduled to premiere this year. Funimation is co-producing the anime and will exclusively stream the series.

Funimation describes the anime’s story as:

She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man follows Sakimori Kagami, a young man who’s spent four years perfecting his avatar in the online VRMMORPG Arch Earth Online.

Going by the name Dunbalf, he’s known across the land of this virtual world. But one night before bed, Kagami uses an in-game vanity case that’s about to expire—opting to create his ideal version of a female Dunbalf avatar for fun.

Waking up, he’s surprised to find that he’s now in the body of the avatar he created the night before, and he’ll have to work his way from the bottom up! So he’s a young dude, playing an old dude, who is now playing a young girl—who is still that old dude.

Mira is described as a beautiful summoner who identifies herself as Dunbalf’s pupil. And if you’ve been keeping up, you’ll remember that she is Dunbalf, which means her abilities are the same as his. Despite her youthful appearance, she speaks like an old man.

New Free! The Final Stroke Trailer

The official website for the Free! franchise revealed a new trailer for the first of the upcoming two-part anime film project Free! The Final Stroke. The trailer was delayed by one week due to the group OLDCODEX’s hiatus. The first film will premiere on September 17, and the second film will premiere on April 22, 2022.

Baki Hanma Premieres September on Netflix

The official Netflix Japan Anime Twitter account announced that the upcoming Baki Hanma anime will debut on the platform worldwide in September.

Netflix describes the anime as:

The story finally unfolds into a full-blooded clash between Baki Hanma and his father, Yujiro Hanma, who is known as the “strongest creature on earth.” The climax of the Baki universe, which depicted the “strongest parent-child brawl in history of the world” in the original manga, has been adapted into the long-awaited anime!

Blue Thermal Anime Adaptation Announced

The official Twitter account for Kana Ozawa’s Blue Thermal -Aonagi Daigaku Taiiku-kai Kōkū-bu- (Aonagi College Sports Festival Aviation Club) manga series announced that the manga is receiving an anime film adaptation set to premiere in March 2022. The film’s main cast, trailer, and key visual were also revealed.

Anime News Network describes the manga as:

The manga centers on Tamaki Tsuru, who was on sports teams throughout her entire school life until high school, but is instead seeking an active romantic life once she enters college. However, a turn of events puts her on the path to joining her university’s glider club at college.

The Faraway Paladin Gets Additional Cast, PV, Premiere Date

The official website for the anime adaptation of Kanata Yanagino and Kususaga Rin’s The Faraway Paladin (Saihate no Paladin) light novel series via ANN revealed the anime’s second promotional video, additional cast members, theme song artists, and October 9 premiere date.

Crunchyroll will stream the series as it airs and describes the story as:

In the ruined city of the dead far from human civilization lives a single human child named Will. He is raised by three undead: Blood the heroic skeleton warrior, Mary the ladylike mummy priestess, and Gus the crotchety ghost wizard. The three of them teach the boy what they know and pour their love into him.

One day, the boy begins to wonder, “Who am I?” Will uncovers the mysteries of the undead hidden in this faraway land. He learns of the love and mercy of good gods, as well as the paranoia and madness of evil gods. And once he learns it all, the boy embarks on the path to becoming a Paladin.

The official website for the six-part Girls und Panzer das Finale film series announced that the third film’s Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases will include a new OVA titled “Daikon War!.” The bundle will release on December 24.

Yuki Yuna Is a Hero Anime Gets New Trailer, October 1 Premiere Date

The official website for the Yuki Yuna Is a Hero anime franchise via ANN revealed a new promotional video and October 1 premiere date for the anime’s upcoming third season Yūki Yūna wa Yūsha de Aru Dai-Mankai no Shō (Yuki Yuna Is a Hero: The Great Full Blossom Arc).

Crunchyroll describes the anime as:

Yuna Yuki is an ordinary second-year middle school student. She gets up in the morning, gets ready for school, goes to classes, participates in club activities, and has fun with her friends. But there is one extraordinary thing about Yuki — she belongs to the “Brave Hero Club.” What does the Brave Hero Club do? Who is the mysterious being called “Vertex?” Yuki Yuna and her friends’ story takes place in Year 300, Era of the Gods.

My Senpai Is Annoying Anime Gets New PV, Premieres October 9

The official website and Twitter account for the upcoming anime adaptation of Shiro Manta’s My Senpai Is Annoying (Senpai ga Uzai Kōhai no Hanashi) web manga series revealed a new promotional video alongside the anime’s October 9 premiere date and theme song artists.

Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:

Igarashi is a hardworking young office lady. Takeda, the senpai above her at work, annoys her constantly–and yet she finds herself growing closer to him. Every day is filled with comic mishaps and romantic moments as Igarashi tries to balance work, life, and love. This full-color manga–which started its life as a webcomic–is sure to charm audiences of workplace comedies like Aggretsuko and The Office!

Earlier this week, a teaser for the third TV anime season and a movie scheduled for 2022 was revealed for Sōichirō Yamamoto’s Teasing Master Takagi-san (Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san) manga in a listing in Shogakukan’s website.

Funimation describes the series as:

Tired of being mercilessly teased by his classmate Takagi, Nishikata has vowed to get her back and successfully tease the girl that’s made him blush countless times. After all, if you blush, you lose! But getting vengeance isn’t so easy when every attempt blows up in his face. Will Nishikata ever make Takagi blush or will he gain something more fulfilling from his bumbling attempts?

Fanfare of Adolescence Original anime Announced

This week, Aniplex revealed Gunjō no Fanfare (Fanfare of Adolescence), a new original anime set to premiere in spring 2022.

Anime News Network describes the anime as:

The story takes place at a horse racing academy that trains boys to become jockeys. The three-year academy is very competitive, and those who wish to enter must not only pass an academic test but a physical and fitness test as well. Yū Arimura is a former popular idol who becomes enamored with horse racing after seeing it for the first time, and wants to join the academy. Shun Kanami was raised on an island, and only experienced horse races through radio broadcasts growing up. Amane comes from a high-class family in England, and his father is a former jockey. Amane has previously attended horse racing academies in various countries. The show follows these three 15-year-old boys at the academy.

Heroine Taru Mono Anime Adaptation Announced

This week, ANN announced that HoneyWorks’ “Heroine Taru Mono!” song is getting an anime adaptation titled Heroine Taru Mono! ~Kiraware Heroine to Naisho no Oshigoto. The anime is set to premiere in April 2022. A visual and teaser trailer was also revealed.

Horror Master Kazuo Umezu Announces New Manga

Legendary horror manga creator Kazuo Umezu announced on his website via ANN that he will launch his first new work in 26 years since his retirement in 1995. The new project will launch in January 2022.

Umezu is known for many popular horror titles such as 14-sai and The Drifting Classroom. Umezu also received a Commissioner for Cultural Affairs award in March 2019.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya Franchise Gets Sequel

During a stage greeting event for the new Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya – Licht Nameless Girl (Gekijōban Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya Licht – Namae no Nai Shōjo) film, it was announced that the franchise is getting a sequel. Additional details are yet to be revealed.

The official Twitter account for the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Kazuya Minekura’s Saiyuki Reload manga Saiyuki Reload -ZEROIN-, revealed a new promotional video, additional cast members, and January premiere date for the anime.
