Announced By Benq Zowie: Special Edition EC Series Glossy White Mouse

On Wednesday (March 15th, 2017) BenQ Zowie announced that they have a new version of the “Zowie EC1-A and EC2-A” with a glossy white coating. The press release was vague, below.

“Taipei, Taiwan, March 15, 2017 – BenQ announces special edition of ZOWIE EC1-A and EC2-A in glossy coating today, offering gamers a different feeling from the standard edition.

ZOWIE EC1-A and EC2-A White are the glossy editions of the EC series. They are designed for gamers that prefer the grip and the feeling that the glossy surface provides. The color white was chosen to prevent the sweat and finger print marks to be easily noticeable after use.

EC1-A White and EC2-A White will be available in selected stores worldwide. Please stay tuned to our social media for updates on their availability.”
The specifications for both mice are identical with the only difference being the actual size of the mouse, not something you see everyday.

Hopefully BenQ Zowie can define what the differences are between the standard black model and this “special edition” soon because right now it just sounds like the white one is being labeled as a special edition just because it’s a different color to the original version.

UPDATE

BenQ responded to my thoughts on the “Special Edition” via email.

“The EC White series has a different texture coating, a white glossy coating, which is a completely different texture to the matte black coating that is used on the standard EC series. The change in texture will completely change the feel of the mouse, and the change in colour, not only changes the colour of the mouse, but also reduces the visual marks caused by sweating and fingerprints, something that is a regular problem for black mice, and has long been requested by our users.”

Hopefully this clears up my concerns with the initial announcement, can’t wait to get my hands on the mouse and try it out for myself.
