In a “Best of 2014” list posted this morning, Apple gave props to the best games for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Threes! took home the prize for game of the year, and Apple applauded the game’s “charm and clever concepts” while describing the game as “one of the finest number puzzlers we’ve ever played.”
Other awards were given to Monument Valley, a maze game by the indie development studio Ustwo, and Tomb Raider, the newest installment of the famous adventure game starring Lara Croft. The games were awarded the best game for iPad and Mac, respectively.
Ken Wong, lead designer for Monument Valley, expressed his gratitude in a post on the game’s development blog. “Thank you to Apple for this tremendous honour,” he wrote. “It’s been a fantastic year for mobile games.”
Other honorable mentions include Leo’s Fortune for iPhone, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft for iPad, and Transistor for Mac. You can check out the full list of winners here, which encompasses games, apps, music, TV, and movies.
