Dated as it sounds, the Archie comics have never really gone away. In fact, they’ve only grown more popular and controversial with time. In the wake of comic book based TV series, Fox is currently developing ‘Riverdale’ based off the popular Archie comic series. The new series will be written by Greg Berlanti (Arrow) and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (chief creative officer of Archie Comics). It will be a live-action drama set in the modern day town of Riverdale. Naturally, the show will follow Archie’s love triangle with Better and Veronica as well as including classic characters Jughead, Reggie, Kevin and Josie (and the Pussy Cats). We may even see a cameo by Sabrina the Teenage Witch perhaps? The show is being described as “a bold, subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends, exploring the surreality of small-town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade.” I don’t think it’ll quite go into Twin Peaks territory, but it’ll certainly be something akin to Beverly Hills 90210 or Dawson’s Creek.
