Assassin’s Creed Goes Gangster in ‘Syndicate’

It’s a bloody marvelous time to be alive indeed, because another year breeds yet another Assassin’s Creed.

Ubisoft promised us a look at the next Assassin’s Creed they had up their sleeve and that’s exactly what we got today. As it’s been known for some time, Assassin’s Creed Victory is no more – at least in name. Instead, the open-world action game reimagining of Victorian London will be going gangster as we step into the boots of England’s finest thieves.

The year is 1868 and you play as the styling Jacob Fry and his twin sister, Evey Fry. The game’s reveal comes to us with no shortage of footage, including a complete gameplay walkthrough courtesy of Syndicate’s designers at Ubisoft. It’s all still “pre-alpha,” mind you, but gives us a rather sweeping look at London’s vast cityscape, complete with the grit of underground fight clubs and coal-fueled trains.

Jacob Fry will be packing a punch this time around, carrying brass knuckles, a rope launcher, and “hallucinogenic darts” all in “one deadly package” of his Assassin’s gauntlet. You can add Red Dead six-shooters to that list too. Street fights and gang wars plague the London streets as both you and Evey will be leading your Assassin Brotherhoods in brawls against the city’s seven street gangs, including one Bloody Nora.

In addition, the game will also be featuring carriage chases to track down your quicker prey. The London streets are much bigger than any other entry in the series to date and plenty of room to mind the hapless pedestrians and your carriage’s tolerance for street lamps.

Further, the Fry twins’ mad skills include masters of disguise, i.e. switching between his (or her) stylish top hats at a moment’s notice in the field for casual conversation or for stealthy takedowns. Not a fan of slitting throats? Punch ’em instead.

Check all of Syndicate’s video coverage down below. The game arrives October 23rd worldwide for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Windows for PC. Stay tuned as we likely hear more word from Ubisoft this E3.
