Assassin’s Creed Memories Introduces Card Battling To The Franchise

It seems that Assassin’s Creed: Unity won’t be the only game in the franchise to be released this year. Ubisoft have just announced that they are developing a card battling spin off for iOS devices called Assassin’s Creed Memories. The game allows you to create and customise your own assassin and then engage in battles across all the different time periods from the series, as well as in some brand new ones. Ubisoft has promised that on top of a  robust single player campaign, Assassin’s Creed Memories will also feature 20 vs. 20 multiplayer battles.

The game is being developed by GREE and PlayNext, companies with a lot of experience in the mobile market. According to GREE vice president Eiji Araki , ”the card battle genre is all about being able to evolve and grow great heroes and this franchise has created some of the most epic characters in gaming today.” Following the success of Blizzard’s card based Warcraft spin off Hearthstone, there has been a notable rise in interest for the genre.  Could card battling games replace MOBAs as the new bandwagon for publishers to jump on? We’ll just have to wait to find out.

Assassin’s Creed Memories is free to play and will launch this summer for iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad.
