In what is becoming a ritual for the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey leaked through physical merch. This time it’s a keychain. Following the leak, Ubisoft confirmed its existence.

As is tradition, the next Assassin's Creed has leaked via retail merchandise. It's AC Odyssey, set in ancient Greece, and I hear it's got dialogue choices among other things https://t.co/rV34kwqVqW

Knowns and Unknowns

The only currently confirmed detail is the game’s name and setting: ancient Greece. Rumors abound, including that AC Odyssey will continue the story of Bayek and Aya, but won’t feature them as the protagonists. That said it looks as though both male and female characters will be playable. And the helmet in the logo looks very similar to that of Leonidas I who was the warrior king of the Greek city-state Sparta. That guy that screamed “This is Sparta!” before kicking a man to plummet to his death in the movie 300, yeah, that’s who we’re talking about. We also saw a short trailer teaser with a similar kicking scene. Other rumors indicate that there will be dialogue options similar to those in The Witcher to enhance its RPG nature. But, perhaps the biggest rumor is that AC Odyssey will be out this year. This is surprising since Ubisoft made such a big deal about how they took three years to make Origins.

Origins was the best AC game in years. And while Ubisoft realizing that fact and expanding on the Origins world and gameplay is exciting, I can’t help but be wary about how a shorter development cycle hurt previous AC games. While Odyssey certainly won’t be the reinvention that Origins was, we’ll get a better look at Assassin’s Creed Odyssey at Ubisoft’s E3 conference on June 11, 1 PM PT.
