Attack on Titan Second Season Premiere Announced

This weekend at the Shingeki Matsuri event for Attack on Titan in Japan, the official staff members of the franchise revealed a picture and premiere time frame for the anime’s second season. Spring 2017 is the planned release of the second season of the main Attack on Titan (called Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese) anime series.

Originally, the return of this world-wide popular anime was slated for this year and many fans waited in anticipation. Although disappointment followed with the lack of news, the franchise had plenty of other choices for those who couldn’t get enough of the story. The original manga by Hajime Isayama sparked two spin-off manga and anime series titled Attack on Titan: Junior High and Attack on Titan: No Regrets. Plus, the two live action films, the live-action TV series (also a spin-off), an entire novel series and naturally an OVA have been born from Isayama-san’s original manga.

The picture above that was revealed as a representation of the AoT second season depicts what appears to be Eren, Armin, Mikasa and three well-recognizable titans. The image looks as if it could be a poster from the first season as nothing new seems to be added. Yet, the blue-green aura appears like an electric barrier, but since no further information was given regarding the story, this aura could be an artistic effect.

Attack on Titan fans who only watch the anime will have to wait until next Spring to find out. Those who are interested in reading and catching up on the manga can do so by purchasing the English translated volumes that are published by Kodansha Comics in North America. Through Crunchyroll’s digital manga access, fans may read the chapters simultaneously as they are printed in Japan.
