Code Vein is a souls like game that we’ve been keeping our eye’s on for a long time. For it’s combination of frustrating difficulty, stylized graphics, and it’s blood code mechanics looked interesting. However, what put this game off our radar for a while was the demo we played. Sure, it was fun, but the environment has the appeal of dried wall paper and the story didn’t seem all there. So, we decided too wait for a sale and turns out that was for the better.
Anime souls takes place in a modern setting that can only offer generic and repetitive locations. You play as a revenant that has a thirst for blood. Your character is suffering from memory lost and has no idea who they are or what’s going on. But don’t worry, your beautiful stale waifu will always be by your side for unknown reasons. It’s not long after you awaken that you find a group of revenants seeking answers for their imprisonment in the ruined city and how to escape. However, problems keeping stacking with their blood beads supply running short, more enemies are showing, and worries that the powerful blood queen may return.
Let’s be clear, if all you are seeking is a cross breed between Dark Souls and anime, then there enjoyment to be had. However, if you’re looking for with something with same depth as Dark Souls, then you will be sorely disappointed. Code Vein’s combat, customization, abilities, and co-op is the best it can offer. Everything else; falls flat or apart.
