I was pretty excited for Batman: Return to Arkham, the new remaster collection for Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Originally set to be released on July 26th for PS4 and Xbox One, the game has lost that release date. In fact, it doesn’t even have a new release date and is being delayed indefinitely until WB Games is “sure the game will be ready.”
The remaster collection was being done by Virtuous Games who had previously worked on the remaster of Heavy Rain HD and Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD. WB Games announced the remaster collection back in May, but had been relatively silent about the project up until now. Which isn’t that weird since it is just a remaster, but there is usually some press about it. The games were being brought to Unreal Engine 4, which would provide it with far superior lighting, shading, special effects and environments.
Steve Grayson went to the WB Games Community message boards to reveal the game’s delay, citing that it needed more time before it could be released and provide a “polished Batman Arkham game experience“. I hope we hear about the collection’s new release date soon, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it release closer to Batman: Arkham VR‘s launch.
