Battleborn Has Received Its Final Update

Battleborn, 2K Games

Battleborn was the hero-shooter that tried to do some interesting things as far as hero-shooters go, however it never quite got the love it deserved. Not even a year and a half after its release, Battleborn has received one last update. The update includes a number of balancing tweaks to the characters and to the PVP modes, as well as a number of new skins, variants, finishers and taunts.

All characters receive a couple of new color variations as far as unlockable skins go, but the more notable skin addition is that of Battleborn characters dressed as Borderlands characters, such as Clap Trap or Tiny Tina. The skins actually look really good, and feel a bit of a tease to tide gamers over until Borderlands 3 is officially revealed. New titles have been added or updated, so as to give players a little something extra to work towards while there is still somewhat of an active player base. There is also a change to “skill damage growth formulas” that bases their scaling on percentages. “Prior to these changes, low damage skills became relatively more powerful as players leveled up when compared to high damage skills and attacks. These changes are intended to normalize those relationships so that as players level up, strength relationships are preserved.” For all of the details of the update, feel free to check out Gearbox’s Patch Notes. The servers will remain up for the foreseeable future, with no details so far as to when the game will be taken offline.

Battleborn had plenty going for it. The game had a lengthy campaign mode with an interesting, if sometimes formulaic sci-fi story. The PvP was a highlight though, combining hero-shooter variations with MOBA designs, through a variety of modes. The DLC released over the year varied in quality, but there were some memorable moments in them, and they added plenty to unlock. Its sad to say goodbye to the game, and hopefully some day Gearbox will be able to revisit the characters and setting and give the series the chance it deserves. For now, farewell Battleborn, we hardly knew ye.
