Battlefield 4 Won’t Support Motion Control, DICE Executive Calls it a ‘Gimmick’

DICE Executive Producer Patrick Bach, while speaking to Edge-Online, has stated that motion controls are a ‘gimmick’ and therefore won’t be supported by the recently revealed Battlefield 4.

“We are extremely open to innovation, but if it’s a gimmick, there’s no point unless it adds value to the player. Touch screens used to be a gimmick, because no-one could get it to work until iPhone came out and used it right. It adds to the experience, and now everyone is doing it. To us it’s the same with motion control and perceptual gaming in general; if it adds, great. If it’s a gimmick, ignore it.”

Bach also said that companies have approached them in the past to add motion controls, but the team doesn’t believe in adding features that don’t make their games better. This may be why we’ve never seen Battlefield utilize the Kinect, the PlayStation Move or the PlayStation Eye.

Edge-Online will have a full interview with Bach up on their site later today. You should probably go check it out.
