Battlefield V Won’t Have A Season Pass

Battlefield V Release Date Confirmed

(Battlefield V - DICE)

On top of confirming its release date, EA and DICE have confirmed that Battlefield V won’t have a Season Pass. Instead, they’ll be releasing a series of free content. However, neither publisher nor developer has announced what kind of content that will be.

Tides Of War

During its big reveal presentation, EA announced that it won’t be offering a paid season pass for the game. Instead, the publisher will roll out a regular stream of content updates for the online shooter. This is part of its Tides of War live service.

This is in contrast with the way EA released additional content for Battlefield 1. Battlefield 1 had a Premium Pass, which entitled them to all of Battlefield 1‘s DLC expansions upon their release. EA would later replace the standalone version of the game with Battlefield 1 Revolution, which bundled the Premium Pass together with the base game.

Release Date

As we’ve previously covered, Battlefield V will be released on October 19. During the reveal event, Oskar Gabrielson, General Manager of developer DICE, said:

Battlefield V is a homecoming for DICE as a studio—a return to the era that came to define the Battlefield franchise. But as nostalgic as we are about World War 2, we wanted to challenge the preconception of the era with an unexpected portrayal of this familiar setting. Our vision with Battlefield V is to let players explore new and untold sides of the conflict that shaped the modern world. The scale of each battle and level of immersion is unlike anything we’ve done before in Battlefield and players are in for an epic journey.

DICE senior producer Andreas Morrel also revealed that the game will have a “catch-up” mechanic. However, this will take a while to release. Speaking to GameSpot, Mr. Morrel said they were taking a similar approach to the game as they did with Star Wars Battlefront II. In his words:

Battlefront and Battlefield are, at their foundations, two very different games, and we’ve been building them very differently. But, of course, we’ve learned–like everyone else has done, and we want to deliver the best-balanced experience possible.
