In a postmortem written by The Binding of Isaac developer Edmund McMillen, over at Gamasutra, the creator went in depth with the creation of The Binding of Isaac and how it became a success on the PC and Mac among other things. But towards the end, he mentions that Nicalis (who published Cave Story and VVVVVV) approached him with regards to a remake of the title specifically for consoles. Fans of Edmund McMillen’s work may be happy to know that a remake is, in fact, in the works. With a release window of late next year.

The remake, set to be made in 16-bit, will feature local co-op, a second expansion that didn’t make it to the original version of the game. McMillen will not be dealing with anything business related, however, a term that Nicalis accepted. Additionally, consoles on which the remake will make its way to have not been detailed, but Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo platforms are being looked at.

“It’s still too early to tell for sure what consoles the game will end up on, but both Microsoft and Sony feel like it would be a perfect fit for their digital platforms, and we have a feeling the new look might soften up a few people at Nintendo for a possible Wii U/3DS eShop release. I’m wary about how the game might control on iPad, but if they can make it work, I’m all for it.”

Those that have more questions about the remake should turn to McMillen’s site, as he’ll be doing a FAQ soon.
