Blizzard Entertainment, the team behind franchises such as StarCraft, Diablo, and World of Warcraft announced pre-orders would be available beginning November 6th for their upcoming game, Overwatch. Pre-orders will come with an additional “Noire skin” for Widowmaker, an assassin character, which will be available at launch. This announcement was made at Blizzard Entertainment’s own gaming convention, BlizzCon, along with the unveiling of a new map and the final three characters of the 21-character roster.
Overwatch, a brand new team-based first-person shooter, is set on a futuristic Earth where the player takes control of superheroes fighting for control of landmarks across the world. Each of the 21 heroes has their own unique powers, weapons, and abilities, allowing for varied gameplay as players swap between characters in the middle of 6v6 battles. The new map, entitled Hollywood, takes players to a battle on a movie studio tour. The new characters are Genji, a cybernetic ninja, D.Va, the pilot of an experimental military mech, and Mei, a scientist with climate-manipulating technology.
Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, states: “We’re building Overwatch to be the first-person shooter we’ve always wanted to play, with a vibrant world, awesome heroes, and an emphasis on tightly focused cooperative gameplay. We’re excited to welcome console and PC gamers to the fight for the future, and we can’t wait to see all the incredible things teams are able to accomplish on the battlefield this upcoming spring.”
Players looking to pre-order Overwatch have a few options available. Overwatch: Origins Edition, retailing at $59.99, comes with all 21 characters, 5 additional character skins, and additional Overwatch-themed content for other Blizzard games, such as a Baby Winston pet for World of Warcraft and a Tracer hero for Heroes of the Storm. Overwatch: Collector’s Edition will contain all of the content included in the Origins Edition along with an official art-book, soundtrack, and collectible statue. A digital edition of Overwatch will also be available with the pre-order bonus.
Overwatch will be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. To pre-order Overwatch or to learn more, visit the games official website here.
