Blizzard Expects More World of Warcraft For Another Decade

Like so many of us have dreamed, World of Warcraft is forever, and Blizzard intends for something short of that. Next month, the globally acclaimed PC MMO series will celebrate a decade-long run, but that won’t be the end says lead designer Ion Hazzikostas.

Speaking with CNET about the game’s tenth anniversary, Hazzikostas said he’s absolutely sure that the game will live on at least another ten years or more:

I definitely can’t tell you what our 20th anniversary is going to be. I can tell you there is definitely going to be one. I have no doubt saying that. We’re definitely planning into the future, talking about what the next expansion is going to be, and what the one after that is going to be, just in terms of big picture storylines, how can we start setting things up now, where do we want the game to go. Ultimately it’s all one step at a time.

The World of Warcraft development team has swelled to unprecedented numbers and since then, Blizzard’s reportedly considered expansions beyond Warlords of Draenor, though no firm details have been announced about these projects thus far.

Blizzard is expected to talk more about its plans for World of Warcraft, and its other franchises, during BlizzCon 2014 next weekend, and we intend to bring you all the news from the show as it unfolds.

The legendary MMO series was also the most recent to pay tribute to Robin Williams in its latest expansion, breaking the genie out of the bottle, so to speak.

A World of Warcraft movie from Moon director Duncan Jones and Godzilla studio Legendary, simply titled “Warcraft” is also in the works, and has since been pushed back to a March of 2016 release.

So, even after you’ve gone on your first date, graduated, gotten married, had kids, or even finished reading this news article, World of Warcraft has every intention of staying strong . Tell us: What are some of your favorite World of Warcraft memories? Were you there when the all-consuming saga first began? Or have you just recently jumped on the online bandwagon?
