Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 Might be On Its Way

Call of Duty: Ghosts

No one is surprised a new Call of Duty game is coming in 2016. The annualized franchise has been hitting its release dates every year since it began following the trend of sports games. Now that every company is on a three-year development cycle, Infinity Ward is next at bat. But what most people probably didn’t expect, if Games TM (a UK-based magazine) is to be believed, is that the next entry in the Call of Duty franchise would be a sequel to Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Listed as one of 2016’s Most Wanted Games in the February issue of Games TM, Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 was shown as being released this November. The scan of the magazine doesn’t have much in terms of info for the game, other than some quotes from Robert Bowling about what Call of Duty needs to do to improve.

A new Call of Duty was officially announced in an earnings call in late February, but the only thing confirmed was that it would come in late 2016 from Infinity Ward – two things that were assumed by many to be the case since Sledgehammer and Treyarch were the last two companies to release entries in the franchise. Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 could have likely been predicted as the next Infinity Ward title, but it is still a bit surprising since the original game didn’t do well critically.

Infinity Ward are best known for reinvigorating modern shooters with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and then having Jason West and Vince Zampella leave the studio to found Respawn Entertainment which helped spark renewed interest in the shooter genre with Titanfall. Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 could be the game to put Infinity Ward back on the map, but it probably isn’t a strong start to lean on a new series that wasn’t successful to begin with.

We’ll see whether it ends up truly being called Ghosts 2 later in 2016 when the next Call of Duty title is released. Can Infinity Ward find their footing in the franchise they helped shape? Is Ghosts 2 a good or bad idea? Let us know in the comments below.

Source: Frag Hero
