Capcom has announced that it will be the publisher of the upcoming game Remember Me. The game was formerly under the alias Adrift last year, and was to be a multiplatform project by French developer, DONTNOD entertainment.
However, apparently Capcom has taken over publishing of the project within the last twelve months, renamed it, and ensured it will be an exclusive PlayStation 3 title.
The game will centre around a female protagonist named Nilin. During the revealed trailer for the game, she is shown scrambling around a futuristic realisation of Paris. The plot of the game will surround Sensation Engines, which are explained as an implant of which people may use to capture memories.
Gameplay surrounding these implants will also be implemented in the game. Nilin has an advanced implant which she may use to effectively remix others memories in order to achieve goals. In a morbid example from the trailer, she uses her implants to convince a security guard in to believing he has killed his wife, which convinces him to take his own life. This would allow the protagonist to slip by effectively, without the need to get her own hands dirty.
Remember Me (Official Trailer)
This innovative gameplay is an interesting concept. It draws a similar comparison to upcoming Ubisoft game Watch Dogs, in which the use of technology by the player can be used to effect the environment. It seems developers are searching for new ways to create engaging gameplay dynamics without relying on the standby of “shoot everything that moves.”
