Resident Evil isn’t dead yet – at least, not if Capcom’s latest trademark has anything to say about it. Just months after its most recent re-release of its original series entry, a recent trademark filing by the company has all fingers pointing to the franchise’s own evil, fictitious corporate masters.
Simply titled “Umbrella Corps,” the first trademark was filed with the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) by a Spanish representative Javier Ungria López. English was listed as the trademark’s first “filing language,” with Spanish as the “second language.” The filing was dated for this past July 7th, 2015.
In addition, Dual Shockers reports that a trademark of Capcom’s was further filed with the Japanese Patent and Trademark Office under “Biohazard Umbrella Corps” in both Romaji and Hiragana spellings. “Biohazard” just so happens to be the name Resident Evil is known by in Japan.
Though Capcom has yet to formally announce any new Resident Evil entry since this year’s episodic Resident Evil: Revelations 2, the “Umbrella” name hasn’t been used since 2007’s Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles for the original Wii and later ported to the PlayStation 3. Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster remains the only upcoming Resident Evil and is slated for an early 2016 release window.
