This Is the Police is one of those games that flew under the radar but still garnered somewhat positive reviews. Our PC review gave the game an 8 out of 10, which is a bit higher than the 66% average on Metacritic. We will likely bring you a review of the Switch version soon as the game seems to be perfect for the portability of the system.
Regardless, the game did well enough to warrant (pun intended) a sequel which will come out this year on PC/Mac, PS4, Switch, and Xbox, including the Xbox One X. From the limited information released so far, the game seems to be expanding on the strengths of the first game. This Is the Police 2 will revolve around tactical and strategic choices using a mixture of adventure and management game mechanics.
This Is the Police 2 will put you in the role of Lilly Reed, voiced by Sarah Hamilton of The Longest Journey fame, as the new sheriff in town. The game looks to tackle the idea of a bunch of rough and tumble men having to answer to a woman for the first time. The protagonist is a new stranger in town calling himself Warren Nash which will lead the narrative as the force tries to discover if he is in Sharpwood to bring salvation or perdition.
As the sheriff, you will be dealing with a more in-depth police force with each officer having their own lives, desires, strengths, weaknesses, fears, and prejudices. Learning to work with them and knowing where they best fit into your overall strategy will be key to your success as Lilly Reed.
We can only hope the game elevates the solid systems put into place by its predecessor and will be sure to bring you more news as we get closer to release. Did you play This Is the Police? What are your thoughts?
