A well respected actor by the name of Charles Dance has been cast as Emperor Emhyr var Emreis in one of this year’s most anticipated games, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Dance is known for movies such as Underworld: Awakening (2012), Dracula: Untold (2014), and is also well known as Tywin Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Even though this is his first video game performance, his voice sounds perfect for The Witcher 3, and I personally hope more game developers will start appreciating the talents of actors\voice actors that we’ve come to love from TV and movies
Dance says:
“This is my first video game that I have performed in, it’s a whole new world for me. It’s quite exciting actually.”
“My character is.. he’s a very very powerful man, probably the most powerful man and as such he doesn’t need to throw his weight around, he’s a man of few words. The words he speaks speak volumes and he’s ruthless, he’s ruthless because he has to be”.
“The whole rise in the popularity of fantasy now is quite extraordinary really, it’s no longer the realm of children’s entertainment. It is real, so the whole thing now appeals to quite discerning adults because the special effects are so real, the worlds that are created are so believable, but it also employs the most wonderful cinematic techniques.”
“What I saw of video games 10 years ago, I mean it’s like a whole other world”.
It’s wonderful to see an older gentleman like Charles Dance appreciating video games as a whole, and not just as children’s entertainment. There’s so much more to it than that now, and it shows that games can be appreciated by all ages.
Below is the Official behind the scenes tease of Dance’s performance within the game.
