Check Out New Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Footage in TGS Trailer

Square Enix have released a trailer for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue at Tokyo Game Show, which has new gameplay for Birth By Sleep 0.2, new footage from X Back Cover, and a whole new remix for the series theme, Simple and Clean.

The game will now be released on January 24th, 2017 for the PS4, and it has been delayed from its initial December date due to series director Tetsuya Nomura lending a hand for Final Fantasy XV‘s last stages of development (Tweet translated by Goldpanner via KHInsider). Final Fantasy XV, meanwhile, is slated to release on November 30th for PS4 and Xbox One systems.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is a compilation of new stories and the HD remaster of 3DS title Dream Drop Distance. Birth By Sleep 0.2 follows the events of the PSP entry’s Final Mix, in which Aqua is stuck in the Realm of Darkness after a battle with Xehenort. She will be exploring the darkness versions of Castle of Dreams and Dwarf Woodlands. Whether or not there will be more worlds is unclear, but Nomura has stated that 0.2 will be the length of one world (Famitsu via KH13). X Back Cover tells the story of the Foretellers and their struggle with finding out who the traitor within the group is. Like 358/2 Days and Re: Coded, this will be entirely cut-scene based. Both new entries in the story will be running on the new KH3 engine.

In addition to the trailer, the box art was revealed.

No information about Kingdom Hearts 3 has been shared so far at the Tokyo Game Show this year except for Nomura stating in an address on Twitter that it “is coming along steadily.”
