Even with E3 around the corner, Nintendo hasn’t forgotten about its fans in the homeland. Today, Nintendo’s Japanese Direct hit and revealed that a new Chibi-Robo game will be coming to the 3DS – and maybe elsewhere, we can only hope.

Unlike the GameCube title of its origin, this series entry will see Chibi-Robo hopping around in a Mario-style side-scrolling platformer with no toothbrushes in sight. Though you won’t be cleaning floors, you will be using your power cord to attack things and grapple across chasms.

You can check out the footage for the game starting at the 13:30 mark in the Direct video below.

In addition, Nintendo’s revealed that Chibi-Robo will also be one of the latest characters to become an amiibo. We don’t know if it’s coming to other shores either.

Released in 2005 in Japan, Chibi-Robo! Plug into Adventure! later released in North America and Europe the following year. Players assume the role of the game’s 10-centimeter namesake, Chibi-Robo, a little robot assigned to keep his owners, the Sandersons, happy. Along with doing chores and keeping his home clean, Chibi-Robo let you discover a variety of mysteries lurking in the Sanderson household – from aliens to the sentient toys roaming the house at night.

What say you, readers? Do you remember Chibi-Robo?
