The first bit of information regarding Ubisoft Montreal’s new IP, Child of Light, has been revealed at a GDC 2013 panel called Small Projects in AAA Studios: Making of Child of Light.
The game, said to be inspired by old-school JRPGs (Final Fantasy VI is the game that’s being named) is a side-scrolling ‘fairytale game’ that will run on Rayman Origins‘ UbiArt Framework and is headed up by Patrick Plourde, who was the creative director on Far Cry 3. Plouride stated during the panel that he looked to the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Yoshitaka Amano for inspiration, as well as illustrations from Disney’s Snow White. The game was designed as a ‘counter point’ to Far Cry 3, which was considered to be very ‘masculine.’
Child of Light doesn’t have a release date, announced platforms or trailer, but you can watch the Vine below from IGN’s Andrew Goldfarb for a brief look at the game.
