Despite just launching, Chrono Trigger holds a Mostly Negative user rating on Steam with only 21% of the reviews being positive. The negative user reviews share common complaints. Among them, “lazy port” is a commonly used descriptive term. According to these reviews, the title is a mobile port with little considerations made for accommodating PC’s controls and hardware. One user, Shiggy, complains that “You can drag your mouse across the screen and the joystick which is used for mobile devices comes up“. Another user, Lil’ Sassy, notes that this issue still occurs with a gamepad, which the Steam page lists as containing Partial Controller Support. “The tap overlay is still there as if you should be clicking it with a mouse even when you play with a gamepad“. Multiple reviews also make note of “blurry” visuals that don’t scale well to large screens and high resolutions.

Chrono Trigger, often considered one of the greatest role-playing games of all time, may demand PC users to remain patient. Maybe Square Enix will fix the issues. Maybe not. We’ll have to wait and see.
