Tunche, named after a powerful creature in the game, is a co-op beat’em up full of charming art and smooth, exciting combat that comes with a graded combat counter reminiscent of Devil May Cry. The Tunche release date is later this month on March 23, 2021, and will be coming to PC and Switch. Looking at the great art and gameplay, it’s no wonder its Kickstarter got over 1000 backers and more than $55,000 in pledges.

Playing as one of five tough, yet somehow cute-looking characters, you traverse through the Amazonian rainforest to tussle with diverse enemies in vibrant environments.

The end goal of all the fighting? To find and defeat the mysterious and dangerous Tunche.

Co-op Gameplay and Combat

The gameplay is fairly straightforward: you punch, kick, stab, and do some magic to fight your way through the wild mass of jungle that lays before you, stopping on occasion only to rest briefly around a campfire with your group of friends. As you progress through the land of Tunche, you’re also able to upgrade skills and the world itself — you’ll need it to face the challenging multi-stage bosses promised in previews.

This game is also perfect for those still stuck in their homes all day due to lockdowns as teaming up for a co-op adventure in Tunche is a good way to get in some fun quality time with friends. Up to five friends can play, roam, and fight through four different procedurally-generated worlds together.

A Comic Book Narrative

Despite all the combat, this game isn’t at all without a story as you get to know the characters in comic book-style cutscenes in between fights. Whenever you select a different character to play, which you can choose to do after completing a chapter for the currently selected character, another story will open up. There is always more to discover about the characters and their adventure with each chapter you play through.
